If you know anything about Studio Ghibli, you know it is among the most popular anime studios in the world and has had an enormous fan base for almost 40 years. When I first started watching Ghibli films, I was in no way, shape, or form a self-proclaimed anime fan besides watching some dubbed Dragon Ball Z in the morning before school as a kid. But after watching Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle for the first time, I fell in love with Hayao Miyazaki’s storytelling and his ability to create a beautiful animation full of heartfelt messages and adventure. This love of these films has caused me to seek out different Studio Ghibli stores and merch to find the perfect wall decor or stuffed animals to subtly show off my love. So, if you’re anything like me or are looking to get a gift for your Miyazaki-obsessed friend (that you may end up keeping for yourself), here are 10 Studio Ghibli-themed gifts!
Collectible Postcards
As a personal owner of these postcards, they are the absolute cutest thing and feature all of Hayao Miyazaki’s films on a bunch of well-made postcards. Some better-known films will have more postcards for that particular movie, but they do well to capture significant and well-loved scenes in his films and are very fun to decorate your room with.
Mugs
Mugs and different glassware cups are always an effortless gift and can feature many well-known characters from your favorite films. You can even start your own collection of themed mugs to give your kitchen a taste of your personality.
Spirited Away Music Box
This vintage-style music box is perfect for those who love Spirited Away and plays the beloved theme of the movie. This one even features beautiful hand carving of Chihiro and No Face, but many other Studio Ghibli stores also have different music boxes for other films as well.
Howl Jewelry
The jewelry that Howl wears in Howl’s Moving Castle is absolutely iconic and well-beloved by his fans. I even own the ring he wears in the film that has a unique engraving of Sophie and Howl’s name that I cherish and would be perfect for those who love the movie as much as I do.
Tote and Messenger Bags
There are so many Studio Ghibli stores that sell all kinds of themed bags, perhaps with the precious Totoro, Jiji, or Calcifer, that could be perfect for just about anyone. Not only can you have a super cute bag to carry all your things, but it’s a fun conversation started and grabs other Ghibli fan’s attention as well!
Lamps
When it to room decor, a little Calcifer lamp is a perfect way to light up your room. Now you can pretend you’re Sophie and spend all your time with your own very terrifying fire demon.
Sweaters
With fall and cold weather right around the corner, a Ghibli Sweater is the perfect gift for all those fall/winter babies out there. You can get a muted embroidered sweater with a small design, or go all out and get a design full of your favorite characters and movies.
Playing Cards
This gift is so fun and is similar to the postcards in the way that they can feature all sorts of different scenes from your favorite movie and can be fun to share with your other obsessed friends.
No Face Car Decor
When I first saw this swinging No Face, I was tempted to buy it for myself. It would be just so funny to watch him swinging back and forth as I’m driving along. But this doesn’t just have to go into a car; he can hang out just about anywhere, like your desk or bedroom window.
Totoro Puzzle
Not only can you do this puzzle with your friend, but it can be a really fun keepsake as well. A lot of people like to use a puzzle mod podge of some sort that you can get just about anywhere so you can hang up your finished puzzle to admire it forever!
And that’s just a few different Studio Ghibli stores and knick-knacks that can help get some inspiration going! What did you think of these gifts? Are there any you’d like to keep for yourself? Let us know in the comments!
