I don’t know about you guys, but ever since I first watched “10 Things I Hate About You,” I wanted to embody everything that Kat Stratford represents. To me, she was really the “it girl.” Not only did she have some really fire outfits the whole movie, but she was also so unapologetically herself and always said and did what she wanted. Not worrying about what everyone else expected from you seemed so freeing, and her vibe is perfect for the oncoming fall weather. So today, I’m going to talk about all the different Kat Stratford outfits, accessories, and vibes you need to achieve her aesthetic this fall!
This is probably my favorite outfit in the movie, and it is also in one of my favorite scenes. It is an effortless outfit to thrift, and all you need to look for is a white button-up top with some sort of cute detailing or embroidery. But if you can’t find a button-down that you love, another white blouse or short-sleeve shirt with some dainty detailing would also be cute. You will also need a midi skirt and some black platform flip-flops as well to complete the look.
Another iconic look of Kat’s is her party outfit, which gives off the perfectly moody teenage girl vibe. A vital aspect of this look is her leather jacket, but another dark-colored jacket could also work if you don’t feel like looking for one. Just match it with a cropped Y2K tank with some low-waisted dark pattern pants or jeans. Don’t forget to add some braids to your hair if you want!
Another favorite outfit of mine is what she wears while reading on the rail of her porch. It is such a simple yet fun outfit that is easy to achieve with clothes you most likely already have in your wardrobe. Just get some distressed tan slacks or cargo pants (maybe splatter paint on them if you really want to commit) and a lacy tank top.
The jewelry Kat Stratford wears is straightforward as well. She tends to wear silver jewelry, with two small hoops in each ear, a chunky necklace with a unique charm, and occasionally a quirky spider ring. Try to get it simple, with nothing too flashy. She can also be seen wearing her hair up in what looks like a claw clip as well, so definitely throw one of those in there if you can.
To embody Kat Stratford completely, you can also adopt some of her attitudes as well. She is snarky, intelligent, rebellious, and strives to do what people don’t expect. Kat hates conforming to social standards and doesn’t care if that makes her a “heinous bitch” or not. She calls people out on their bull, isn’t afraid of confrontation, and knows her worth. But she can also be a kind soul and softer once you get to know her, even though she loves to give off a scary outer shell to protect herself. Though some of her actions are a bit outdated now, like criticizing others for wanting to go to prom or her hyperfeminine sister, I still don’t think of her as the “pick me girl.” She doesn’t do anything for male attention and simply lives for herself, even if she is not the nice girl everyone wants her to be. And I think there is something really powerful in that, and we can take some inspiration from her confidence.
