Spotify Wrapped is here and it’s all anyone is talking about. The anticipation is heavy in the air as everyone is excited to see their Spotify listening data all tallied up. Spotify Wrapped is a spectacle every year, and it represents what makes Spotify such a loved platform.
Spotify is well-known as one of the best music streaming platforms because of its playlists and highly personalized tailoring for every user. Spotify curates a wide variety of playlists for both premium and free users, such as daily mixes, genre mixes, niche mixes and discover weekly for finding new music. You can find any kind of playlist possible on Spotify, from specially curated ones made by the site to playlists made by other users, there’s something for everyone.
Typically while doing coursework or writing, I like to listen to music to concentrate. Sometimes it’s playlists I’ve made myself, sometimes it’s a playlist made by Spotify. On this particular day, I came across something called a “daylist” being recommended to me. I hadn’t noticed this playlist before, but after clicking on it and reading its summary, I decided to take a listen.
Spotify daylist was a feature released in mid-September with a concept unlike any other. The playlist not only changes daily, but multiple times a day as well. Spotify explains that the daylist is influenced by the genres you listen to as well as the days of the week and even the time of day you listen to them. If you listened to pop music on a Monday morning, then mid-Western emo Tuesday evening, these are things you will find reflected in your daylist.
Spotify daylists are presented to you with oddly specific titles and a description meant to introduce the vibe of the playlist. What makes Spotify daylists special is that they intend to focus on subgenres and especially niche interests that users may have and hone in on them. Your daylist is a highly personalized one for each listener to reflect your listening patterns and interests.
The first time I listened to my daylist, I really enjoyed it as it contained genres I loved, songs I knew and even introduced me to new songs I fell in love with. At first I wasn’t aware that your Spotify daylist changed throughout the day, so I was a bit surprised when I opened it up at a later time and found a completely different playlist. However, I did overcome this surprise rather quickly as I found that I really liked the changing nature of Spotify daylists.
I loved that each time I opened up the playlist I was greeted with something different based on my musical interests. The titles are always unique and let you know exactly what you’re walking into each time. I’m never confused about the concept of the playlist I’m listening to as they are laid out clearly and draw me in from their titles alone. The playlist I listen to in the morning is completely different from the one I find at night, which I think is a really neat feature. I’ve come to love listening to Spotify daylists as I love how often it changes and the way it offers me more music to listen to paired with the music I already love.
If you like listening to music while you work, at the gym or even while doing school work but want something different, you should give Spotify daylists a chance. The playlist will curate music from artists you love while also helping you discover new ones. The ever-changing nature creates a surprise for you every time you open Spotify, and if you love spontaneity, then Spotify daylists may be what you’re looking for.
