If you’re familiar with the video gaming scene, you’ve likely heard of a new game called Lethal Company making its way online. Lots of people enjoy the game, with thousands of clips and videos still being uploaded every day. For those of you who have heard of it but still don’t know what it is, Lethal Company is a survival horror game where you work for a, um, lethal company. You’re tasked, either as a group or by yourself if you’re brave, to venture into abandoned facilities and retrieve scrap parts to make quota for the day. However, monsters, environmental threats, and the building itself pose hazards for you and your team. In this article, we’ll discuss general tips for Lethal Company that will help you earn the title of “Employee of the Month”.
Monsters
One of the appeals of Lethal Company is the variations of monsters you may encounter. For instance, eyeless dogs require you to be deadly silent, as any noise will alert you to their position. Meanwhile, baboon hawks require you to stay with your group, and any loud noises will scare them away. If you know how to play your cards right, you may even be able to get some of the monsters to fight each other for you. Here’s a list of different monsters and advice on how to defeat or avoid them.
Inside the Facility
Bracken- look directly at it, but don’t stare for too long. The bracken is shy but also extremely quick.
Bunker Spiders- weave webs to catch their prey. It is best to avoid them altogether, as they are difficult to kill. (There’s also an arachnophobia mode, where the spider model is replaced with the word SPIDER)
Coilhead- an extremely fast enemy that will hunt you down, these enemies only move when you’re not looking.
Ghost Girl- she can be seen at any time, inside or outside. She appears to one player at a time, but if she starts skipping towards you, run.
Hoarding Bugs- like to steal your loot but get hostile when stolen from. They are easy to kill with a shovel.
Hygrodere- a gel-like blob that slowly moves towards you. It’s deadly, but extremely slow.
Jester- a music box-like monster, you should exit the building before the Jester finishes winding itself up, or else it will hunt you down and kill you.
Mask- initially appearing as loot, you risk becoming possessed by the mask the longer you hold it and can in turn possess your teammates as well.
Nutcracker- while the Nutcracker is scanning with its eye, do not move. It is possible to kill the Nutcracker and steal the shotgun it wields.
Snare Flea- a bug that hides on the ceiling to drop down on you and suffocate you. You can either hit this monster with a shovel to kill it, or you can try to exit the building, in which case the bug will then disappear.
Spore Lizard- a relatively harmless monster, the worst that this creature does is give you a playful bite if you get too close.
Thumper- a deaf monster, this creature will charge at you the moment it sees you.
Outside the Facility
Baboon Hawk- keep your distance and stay in large groups. They also respond to noise, so shouting at them normally scares them away.
Circuit Bees- electric bees that are extremely territorial of their hive, which also happens to be extremely valuable. If you want to take the hive to sell it, you’ll need someone to distract the bees while you nab the hive. Your teammate is likely to die, however.
Earth Leviathan- a large sandworm that roams outside, sprint away in a straight line if you hear strange noises and see dirt erupting around you.
Eyeless Dogs- as mentioned above, these monsters are sensitive to sound, so be extremely quiet if one is hunting. It can also enter your ship, so be wary of the noise level you make.
Forest Keeper- otherwise known as “giants” are motion-activated. If you see one nearby, crouch down and do not move.
Manticoil- harmless birds that fly overhead, mostly to add ambiance.
Roaming Locusts- harmless insects in the external environment, mostly to add ambiance.
The Facility
As mentioned above, most of the threats you’ll face come from the monsters inside the facility. But there are other hazards to watch out for, like mines, turrets, and pits that are littered around the building. Mines are easy to avoid- as long as you don’t step on them (or rather, step off of them), they won’t explode. Turrets are a bit trickier, as they are much faster and tend to follow their targets if they see you. It is possible to sneak behind a turret without activating it, though you’re required to be quick if the turret does catch you.
Keep one person on the ship
There is a way for players to be warned of environmental hazards. Keeping one player on the ship (your spawn point) during the venture can be a lifesaver. They can monitor individual players and see any threats around them, can deactivate turrets and mines, and can provide assistance if you get lost in the building. They are also at risk for external hazards, however, and may not be able to leave the ship if the area becomes hazardous.
Buy a walkie-talkie
Walkie-talkies are useful to keep you and your teammates connected, even when you’re out of earshot. Alerting each other to threats, notifying each other of scrap, and letting each other know they are safe can make this survival horror game feel a little less lonely.
The Company
Though the Company does not pose much of a threat, it is wise to try to stay on its good side. When selling your scrap to the Company, make sure to place your scrap on the counter and ring the bell once. Even if it seems like nothing is happening- DO NOT ring the bell multiple times. Once the window behind the counter opens, get as far away as you can. Trust me, you do not want to be grabbed by whatever lurks behind the window.
Some scrap can be used as weapons
Some scrap, such as stop signs, can be used as defensive weapons against the threats around you. Stop signs act similarly to the shovel- they can be used as a bludgeoning weapon to stun or even kill some monsters. So, save that scrap if you don’t want to buy a shovel from the company.
Use the Buddy system
Using the Buddy system can help you survive encounters. You can share resources- one person holds the flashlight or walkie-talkie while the other holds a shovel for defense. It’s also easier to alert your other teammates if your buddy dies to a threat before warning the others about it. Sticking together really does make a difference in this game.
