What do you think is the craziest donut you’ve ever had? For me, it was Blueberry Lemonade, a vanilla cake donut with blueberry frosting and a lemon drizzle. I was able to try this donut at Duck Donuts, a famous donut chain that has been growing more popular over the last decade. The nearest location to my house is about 45 minutes away, but every time we pass by, I start to crave their donuts. You may be wondering; are Duck Donuts good? Are they really that good? Take it from me, if you love sweets and pastries, you’ll want to check this chain out.

Duck Donuts was founded in 2007 in Duck, North Carolina by Russ DiGilio. After noticing how there were very few locations nearby that offered fresh donuts, DiGilio decided to start Duck Donuts, aptly named after the town they began in. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Duck Donuts, but I can say that my first visit was exceptional. There were so many unique combinations and flavors of donuts, and they were even able to make the classics taste incredible. Below, I’m reviewing a few of the donuts that I’ve had in the past, plus a few of Duck Donuts’ most popular and crazier flavors on the menu.

Bacon in the Sun/Maple Bacon

Bacon goes great with anything! These donuts come with maple frosting, bacon, and in Bacon in the Sun’s case, salted caramel drizzle. Even though both bacon and donuts are breakfast foods, this is the first time I’ve seen them together like this! A sweet and savory donut, this treat is great for those who want to start their day with a maple bacon explosion!

Blueberry Lemonade

One of my favorite flavors from Duck Donuts, this donut comes with blueberry frosting and lemon drizzle. It’s rare to see any type of frosting flavor that’s not chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry, so the blueberry flavor grabs your attention. This was what introduced me to Duck Donuts, as I realized that they had more than just the classics!

Sunrise

Another one of my favorites, this lemon frosting and raspberry drizzle reminds you of a beach sunrise! Lemon is another flavor not normally associated with donuts, yet Duck Donuts makes it work with multiple different donuts. If you love strawberry or raspberry lemonade flavors, I recommend the Sunrise as your first donut.

Sand Dollar

If you’re a huge fan of coconut, you need to try the Sand Dollar. Vanilla icing covered (and I mean covered) in coconut shavings makes you feel as if you’re actually at the beach!

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches aren’t just for lunch! Peanut butter icing topped with raspberry drizzle makes this unique donut stand out among its peers.
