Things that were once a faux pas are bound to come back in fashion at some point, but one trend I never thought I’d see surface is the fake tan line trend that’s recently been taking over TikTok. As someone who loves to spend as much time as possible photosynthesizing in the summer, I usually make it a priority to avoid crazy tan lines, but it now appears that people are purposely manufacturing their tan lines in an effort to give off the appearance of having just returned from a tropical vacation. How To Achieve The Look
There are two easy ways people are faking the tan line look. One version of the trend sees people using a combination of different makeups to achieve a sunny glow. In a tutorial, creator @erinduganjurchak shows how using a powdered bronzer and blush mixed together, dabbed over some tape and then blended in with your fingers will give you the coveted tan line look. Using a high quality bronzer and blush will go a long way here. Some recommendations for products include the Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder, the Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer, and the classic NARS Powder Blush.
Another method people have been using is the self tanner method. Similarly to the makeup method, you start by applying a thin tape in the shape of the tan line you’d like to have. Then simply rub self tanner over the tape, wait for your tan to develop, peel off the tape, and, voila, you’re left with that fresh-from-vacay look that you’ve been craving. People have even been cutting out tape in cute shapes like hearts or stars to leave themselves with a sort of cute temporary summer tattoo.
