We are at the time of the month where Pride Parades are at their peak. They are a chance to dress joyfully, show off your unique bold style, and celebrate living openly among your people and local community. Whether it’s your first time or have already had the experience of attending a Pride Parade, here are a couple items to keep in mind in order to create the most complete look for this year’s experience.
Embrace The Rainbow
The rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, is the leading element at Pride events. Incorporating the colors into your outfit is a great way to show your support, it doesn’t matter if you’re part of the community or an ally.
Clothing
Opt for rainbow-themed tops, wheter it’s a simple rainbow stripe or a customizable graphic tee with a powerful statement. You can also find shirts that highlight different pride flags representing various identities. For those who prefer something a bit more eccentric, consider a rainbow dress or skirt. These can be paired with plain-colored tops or accessorized pride-themed items. Brightly colored pants or shorts can also make a statement. Pair them with a white top to make the colors pop, or go out with a rainbow-patterned set.
Accessories
Wear a pride flag as a cape for a bold and celebratory look. Rainbow hats, beanies, or headbands can be both stylish and functional, protecting you from the radiant sun. Also, don’t overlook your feet! Rainbow socks or shoes can add a fun touch to your outfit. Brands like Converse, Vans, etc… often release Pride-themed footwear that goes perfect for the occasion.
Express Yourself Creatively
Pride is a celebration of individuality, if not a competition of looks. Either way you have to let your creativity shine. Creating your outfit can be a fun and rewarding experience. Consider tie-dyeing a shirt in rainbow colors or decorating a plain hat with pride-themed pins. People often use face paint to draw their pride flag, heart or any other symbols. It can be a fun pre-parade activity to do with your friends. Add some sparkle to elevate the festive touch.
Hair and Makeup
Another way to step up your look is to dye your hair, it can be either a temporary hair dye or colored hair spray. You can choose to wear the entire rainbow colors or opt for your flag colors.
I saw this Tik Tok and absolutely loved it, great idea if you don’t want to dye your entire hair.
Experiment with bold and bright makeup looks. Use colorful eyeshadow, lipstick, and eyeliner to create a vibrant and eye-catching look.
It’s My First Time Going, Any Tips?
Parades are known for being crowdy (not only the Pride Parade), so gather at least another person to go with. Doesn’t have to be LGBTQ+ to assist, they can go as an ally! But it’s important because you don’t know what can happen that you’re going to need help from that person. And if you do have your LGBTQ+ group, coordinate your outfits. Maybe the aesthetic each person has is different, but make sure you have that one common characteristic, so you guys can identify each other quickly in case you get lost. Also, outfit coordination is great for pictures!
- Get to know the route, start times and any scheduled activity.
- Bring water and snacks, your body will thank them.
- Plan your transportation in advance. Every city is different, but in average, it’s best to take the bus, since the parking part is very difficult.
- Be respectful of everyone’s identity, that’s what Pride’s all about!
A Pride Parade is a time to celebrate love, diversity, and inclusivity. What you wear can be a powerful expression of your identity and support for the LGBTQ+ community. Whether you go all out with a rainbow-themed outfit, represent your specific identity with pride flags, or create a comfortable and practical ensemble, the most important thing is to have fun and celebrate the beautiful diversity of human identity. Remember to stay comfortable, be creative, and most importantly, enjoy the joyous celebration that is Pride. If it’s your first parade, plan ahead, stay hydrated, and capture the moments while respecting everyone’s personal space and experiences.
