It’s really hard nowadays to just watch a movie and not think about every single element in it. Thanks to A24, ordinary people also consider film houses when reviewing movies. Established in 2012, it has quickly become the leader for new and twisted films. The New York based studio has earned quite the reputation by providing a platform for both established and emerging talents to bring their ideas into screen. With several Oscar wins, including “Moonlight” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, A24 has centered its place as the premier film house in contemporary films. The studio stays dedicated to a wide range of content, offering a variety of genres like horror, dark comedy, romance, documentaries, etc.

Just this year alone, A24 has delivered us some of the 2024’s best movies: Sing Sing, Love Lies Bleeding, I Saw the TV Glow and Janet Planet. This article will explore all of the upcoming and anticipated projects in what’s left of 2024 (and a bit of 2025).

Horrors and Thrillers: A24’s Specialty

A24 is known for their high-quality horror films and new movies to maintain this reputation. “The Front Room ”, directed by Sam and Max Eggers (who are related to A24’s Robert Eggers), provides an opportunity for singer and actress Brandy to play into the horror genre. The story revolves around a pregnant woman who receives her disturbing mother-in-law, resulting in an intense physiological suspense film. The movie’s release is expected to be September 6.

Hugh Grant switches paths into the horror genre with “Heretic” (November 15), directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The movie portrays a host who seems to be friendly, but only takes 2 missionaries to ensure maybe he is not that friendly. If you’re into the mix of horror and dark humor, you should keep an eye out for “Y2K” coming out on December 6. It brings the millennials’ worst nightmare growing up to life: a robot uprising right at Y2k.

Dramatic Offerings

A24 keeps amazing actors for its upcoming dramas. For example, Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield in the british drama “We Live in Time” coming out on October 11.

The m͏ovie “Babygirl”͏ (December 20) directed͏ by Halina Reijn, feature a͏ top-͏tier cast͏ incl͏ud͏e Nicole Kidman, Ant͏onio͏ Banderas, and Harris Di͏ckinson in an attractive thriller about influential business leaders.͏

The studio continue͏s work with renowned directors. Paolo Sorren͏tino revisits Naples in “Parthenope,͏” a tale of a woman seeking joy in 195͏0s Italy͏. A͏dditionally, Spike Lee and Denzel Washington tea͏ms up for “High and Low,” a mode͏rn adaptation͏ of Akira Kurosa͏wa’s acclai͏med movie.

Genre Bending and Unexpected Turns

A24’s films are awe inspiring, blending genres and exceeding expectations. “The Smashing Machine” (2025) by Benny Safdie is a biographical film about MMA fighter Mark Kerr and his life. Timothée Chalamet plays Marty Reisman in Josh Safdie’s “Marty Pupreme,” a funny ping pong movie. These projects are proof that A24 can find compelling stories in unexpected places.

Looking Ahead

A24 enters its second decade and is still pushing the boundaries of cinema. A24’s blackboard includes a variety of activities, including intimate character studies and genre experiments, to help redefine the future of independent films. The studio’s upcoming films are expected to change perceptions among viewers, and to challenge the established norms of filmmaking. A24 is horror, drama, comedy, documentary, horror, comedy, horror, comedy, anything new, and innovative. It’s a symbol of the evolving nature of the film industry and its potential to inspire and transform minds and hearts alike. Studio’s impressive list of forthcoming films will ensure that it remains a major player in independent filmmaking and continues to shape the future of modern cinematic art.
