Flowers bring life and vibrancy to dull patches of grass, but have you ever had a flower you really vibe with? I’ve recently found out that honeysuckles, tulips and I have a lot in common. Although my allergies may disagree. In this floral crossover of botany and astrology: zodiac flowers. Flowers of the zodiac are believed to be the flowers that best resonate with you based on your zodiac sign. This concept is heavily reliant on the symbolism and cultivation of each flower. So if you’re looking for a bouquet for a loved one, something to brighten up your home, or just want to know what flower matches your frequency; try your zodiac flower!
But wait, I’ve heard about Birth flowers, how are Zodiac Flowers Different?
If you can ask this question, you’ve probably seen just as many greeting cards as I have.
While the two concepts sound extremely similar, they’re actually quite different. Birth flowers are heavily based on what is blooming during that month. These flowers might relate to holidays or special occasion that happen during these months, but generally they’re in the right place at the right time. For example, Holly is the secondary birth month flower of December. Holly thrives at that time, and is one of main Christmas flowers. Birth flowers are a thoughtful gift and a pretty neat tattoo idea, but zodiac flowers connect with you on a different level.
Zodiac flowers connect on a symbolic level. Some of them are in the right place at the right time like birth flowers, but the deciding factor is how they work with your personality. Since each zodiac has their own personality traits, qualities, and quirks, your birth flower may not represent that. Especially, because there are two zodiac signs each month that sometimes have nothing in common with each other. On top of that, every flower has its unique meanings. Although you can throw a bunch of flowers in a vase and it could look pretty, you might not be sending the best message. Zodiac flowers aim to do just that, find your best message. Find your sign and your flower(s)!
Aries
For my fellow Arians, our flower is Honeysuckle. This traditional flower represents our fiery confidence and expression. Honeysuckle is one of the earliest plants to bloom in the spring. Just as Aries is the first zodiac, this flower likes to be the first one out of the gate. Honeysuckle thrives in cool temperatures and grows rapidly and beautifully. For its relationship with spring, honeysuckles often symbolize rebirth and new experiences. The passion, devotion, and cheerfulness pair this zodiac with its flower perfectly.
Additionally, Aries can be associated with tulips. Another early bloomer full of passion, power, and energy!
Taurus
Taureans, it’s time to take a trip down the yellow brick road because your flower is the Poppy. Your flower is both stunning and strong. Poppies often grow in harsh environments but are tough and tenacious enough to withstand the worst. Just like you, they are steady and reliable. Strong like a bull! Poppies symbolize remembrance, consolation, and pleasure. So, to my non-Taureans, treat your favorite bullheaded (I mean this in the nicest way) well because they will remember. And maybe get them some poppies!
Taureans might also appreciate a Lily of the Valley. This sweet woodland plant connects Taurus to the springtime. Gentle and happy with strong roots that keep them connected to their gardens.
Gemini
Geminis, you’re lucky because you get one of the best smelling plants, Lavender. This social pollinator spreads itself far and wide across the world. Lavender reflects Geminis’ multi-dimensional personalities and versatility. It is common to find their signature scent in aromatherapy, traditional medicine, cosmetics, and as culinary herbs. Lavender represents love and loyalty, but also mistrust. Be careful who you give this flower to.
Lilac pairs just as well with Geminis as lavender does. The two flowers are very similar, bringing the same sense of calm that a Gemini may need. Also representing love, lilac and lavender fit just like twins.
Cancer
Cancerians, the caregivers of the zodiac receive a similarly sensitive flower, the white rose. White roses represent loyalty, love, and purity. They are gentle, but their thorns ward off anyone who aims to hurt them or their loved ones. Something these roses have in common with Cancerians. Home, family, and nurturing others are important values to those born under the sign of Cancer. As imaginative as a Cancerian can be, it’s better not to paint these roses red.
Cancer’s connection with the moon also makes the Moonflower a worthy candidate. These flowers are similarly creative and passionate. Consider giving one to your favorite Cancerian if you are dreaming of love with them!
Leo
Leos, the zodiac most connected with the sun, your traditional flower is none other than the sunflower. Sunflowers are sociable and are always ready to face the sun with outgoing confidence. With mane-like petals, sunflowers match perfectly with the courageous lions. Sunflowers symbolize adoration, and pride, something Leos may feel for themselves or the friends that are lucky enough to have them in their lives. Leos and sunflowers are both loyal and joyful, as anyone who knows these bold blooms could tell you.
Sunflowers are such a perfect match, that Leos only have one flower!
Virgo
Virgos, your soft elegance and organization matches the chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemums are devoted to their gardens, providing a bright and bountiful sense of symmetry. They may be more reserved, but shine once their personalities bloom. Virgos are known for being perfectionists, paying attention to every little detail and Chrysanthemums are the perfect flower to represent that. They are elegant and hard-working with their variety of uses in environmental protection and culinary arts. They represent fidelity, optimism, and a long life.
Additionally, buttercups are beloved as a traditional flower for Virgos for similar reasons. They’re organized with a sophisticated structure and design. Buttercups blend in well with other flowers, a little shy, but lovely, nonetheless.
Libra
Libras, ruled by the planet of love, you get the flower of love. Roses stand firm as a symbol of peace and love, complementing Libra’s passion for justice and harmony. As one of the ultimate symbols of devotion and courtship, roses bring a smile to the faces of anyone nearby. Libras, you are represented by this delicate, but hardy symbol of love. Hopefully, one that can be delivered without conflict. Although, a Libra’s thorns may be just as sharp. It’s best not to underestimate the strength of this zodiac and their flower.
Dahlias similarly mirror the exquisite grace of Libras. They represent elegance and dignity. Dahlias provide balance to many gardens, as Libras do to others lives.
Scorpio
Scorpions, your flower is just as mysterious as you. Geraniums are known for having many sides, sometimes never revealing their true self until they need to. Geraniums represent gentility, determination, resilience, and preference. Scorpions, much like your flower, you will not stand for deceit or unreliability. Once proven honest and reliable, you reveal a vulnerability that only your most dear loved ones will know. You can trust geraniums to understand you.
Gardenias are similarly trustworthy; it is what they represent after all. Along with secret loves and good luck, they represent Scorpios connection to protection with geraniums. This fragrant flower is a wonderful addition to a scorpion’s nest.
Sagittarius
Sagittarians, the adventurous archers, your flower is carnation. Your traditional flower is as open-minded, fun-loving, and adaptable as you. Carnations can be found just about anywhere, representing the adventurous spirit of Sagittarius well. They are vibrant, extensive, with cultural significances for love, affection, and distinction. Carnations represent fascination, optimism, and affirmation. They are treasured for the heartfelt emotions they represent, just like Sagittarians.
Bird of Paradise is the second flower in Sagittarius’ bouquet. This flower is vibrant and adventurous. Representing open-mindedness, exploration, joy, and freedom. A perfect symbolic companion of the carnation.
Capricorn
Capricorns, your flower is pansy. Although many people may commonly associate pansy with an insult, this flower is quite the opposite. Pansies are ambitious and tenacious flowers. They can handle the harshest of climates, just as Capricorns handle the toughest of challenges. Ambitious, persistent, loyal, and opportunistic are qualities that tie this flower to the sign represented by mountain goats. Pansies also represent thoughtfulness and remembrance, fitting for a sign that works hard to stand by and appreciate their friends.
Similar to Leos, pansies don’t seem to have any competition for Capricorns’ respect.
Aquarius
Aquarians, your traditional flower is well-known for being untraditional, Orchid. This flower is a nonconformist who loves to stray from conventions and set trends. Orchids are bright, energetic, and eccentric which matches well with Aquarians’ stand out tastes. Resilient and delicate, orchids are not difficult to care for but will only blossom when their needs are understood. The meaning of refined beauty matches well with Aquarians’ natural intelligence and problem solving. You may not need the limelight, but everyone notices how you shine.
Tiger lilies are similarly bright, making them the perfect symbolic partner for Orchid. They represent honor, confidence, and prosperity. Aquarians may your flowers grant you immense luck.
Pisces
Last, but certainly not least, Pisceans. Your traditional flower is delicate, intuitive, and goes with the flow. Literally. You are best represented by water lilies. These flowers are surprisingly strong, up for more challenges than people believe. Others may mistakes empathy, compassion, and sensitivity for weakness, but that is not true for this fishy sign. Like the water lily, your beauty emerges through your determination and resilience. Water lilies represent purity of heart and eloquence, two traits commonly associated with Pisces. These flowers are not the easiest to gift, but you could at least remember to ride the waves when your waters are not as serene as they should be.
Lotuses share dreamy and imaginative meanings, and are a bit easier to gift to your Piscean friends.
Flowers of the zodiac comes in all different colors with all different meanings. Just like people. Maybe that’s why we can vibe with flowers that match our frequency. Or why the stars connect with the earth to find our personalities in the soil. Or why we bloom where we are planted. There’s a few metaphorical things to take from flowers, even if your birth flower doesn’t vibe with you the same way a zodiac flower does. Some flowers are scattered far from their birth months, but others stayed pretty close. However, none of that may matter in the end when you could make a personalized bouquet with both! Wouldn’t that be nice?
