Finding Halloween costumes with a small ounce of originality is nearly impossible these days. Especially when it comes to groups of three. There are the classic options, like the Powerpuff Girls, Lock, Shock, and Barrel from Nightmare Before Christmas, or Pokémon starters. While these are all great options still, I’ve got a list of trio Halloween costumes a little more out there that could be fun for your group to try!
Please note that a lot of these ideas can be utilized for bigger groups or even duos! I tried to pick unique ideas that would easily read with just a group of three. Don’t forget that this is your Halloween! Whatever works with your friend group is best.
Dorothy, Glinda, Elphaba
Especially with Wicked coming out, this is a great costume idea for a group of 3! Dorothy is such a classic Halloween costume; combining it with other iconic characters from the franchise is a great way to spice it up! Plus, Glinda’s dress from the original Wizard of Oz movie is such a serve, someone needs to find a way to make it work for a costume.

The Plastics
Another classic option is dressing up as Regina, Gretchen, and Karen. This is a fun one because they wear so many different outfits that you can pick and choose the vibe! They even have Halloween costumes! Personally, I am a big fan of the Santa outfits. The options are endless if you go the all-pink route. If only Halloween was on a Wednesday this year.

Heathers
Another group of mean girls, but this one is also super simple to put together and is very readable. The Heathers is a great trio costume! I’ve noticed that school uniform chic seems to be in again, and plaid, pleated skirts are everywhere. Pair that with a button-up and a blazer and you will find yourself looking like Heather in no time.
Adventure Time
Adventure Time is a great show to pull trio costume ideas from because there are so many characters! For guys, you could be Finn, Jake, and BMO (or Ice King!). For girls, you could do Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, and Flame Princess. What’s great about this as a costume idea is that the show already has gender-bent versions of every single character, thanks to Ice King. You could be Fiona, Cake, Marshall Lee, Flame Prince, or the Ice Queen. The options are nearly endless here.

The Chipmunks/The Chipettes
This is a no-brainer and is also relatively easy to DIY. We all grew up watching these movies and singing The Witch Doctor. I recommend trying this idea out with two groups of three for the ultimate set of trio Halloween costumes.

Strawberry Shortcake and Friends
This nostalgic idea for Halloween costumes is also a great option because of how many different characters there are. An OG trio costume (in my opinion) would be Strawberry Shortcake, Angel Cake, and Ginger Snap, but there are so many other characters. You could even dress your pets up as Custard and Pupcake!

Totally Spies
Staying on the nostalgia train, Totally Spies is another classic girl trio group. They also have such cute fashion trends in the show, so the options for ideas are endless. You can dress as them in daily wear, or full send for the spy outfits. Don’t forget the lipstick laser!

The Cheetah Girls
I know the most popular movies include four girls, but the real fans know Raven Simone was only in a few of them. I have always wanted to do a Cheetah Girls group costume, so what better time than now? Pick a color and find cheetah print in said color. And again, the options are endless. I’m talking denim on denim, matching tracksuits, and the most iconic early 90s-2000s fashion. It’s the Cheetahs against the world this Halloween.

Winx Club
One more piece of nostalgia for good measure. Winx Club was one of my favorite shows growing up, and it’s also a great costume idea! This is another show where the characters have daily wear and special outfits, you can go in so many directions. Either super cute, crime-fighting fairies, or very fun Y2K-inspired outfits. This one may be the best option. I know I’ve personally always wanted to dress like Bloom or Layla. We even have a fun way to DIY your own fairy wings!

Bratz
Alright, I’ll give one more cute option before some sillier ones. Dressing like a Bratz doll is always going to be iconic. They have such a unique style that I know we all envied growing up, and since they have so many types of outfits, there’s guaranteed a look for everyone in your trio. Take your trio Halloween costumes to the next level.
Ed, Edd, Eddy / The Kanker Sisters
This is another great option for two groups of three. You could also totally gender-bend Ed, Edd, and Eddy, but I think the Kanker sisters are such a fun vibe for a trio of girls. They were our original mean girls, and the direction of this costume idea would be very entertaining for everyone involved, especially if you act in character. Plus, this could easily be the simplest DIY costume, since it’s regular clothes you may have already.
The Lorax
Unfortunately, this is the last idea on this list. Fortunately, I think it’s the funniest one. I saw a TikTok posted by @graeyourbae and I truly believe trio Halloween costumes cannot be topped anymore. Dressing as the Lorax, the Onceler, and Mr,. O’Hare is arguably the best group costume on this list, and I am begging to whoever will listen that I see a group in person doing this idea.
