As a seasoned line dancer, I know how challenging and sometimes scary it can be to put together an outfit for the night. Like, what do you even wear to a line-dancing bar? Something country? Cow print? A cowboy hat? What if you don’t have anything that fits the vibe? Not to mention not every line-dancing bar is country-themed! There are a few sports bars in my area that do line dancing as well. Not to fear! In the three years I have been line dancing, I have assembled many different outfit combinations that I tend to wear out, for practicality, comfortability, and cuteness. Here’s what to wear line dancing!

Big Shirt, Little Pants

This outfit combo is my go-to. There are a ton of line dances that involve moving your hips, and having shorts that help you control your hips is always a plus. I’ve noticed that wearing short jean shorts with a belt helps me feel my hips moving since the belt rests on them. It makes it easier to control your motions. I like to pair this with a big, baggy T-shirt. A big T-shirt gives you so many choices in terms of styling. You can tuck it into the band of your bra, tie it up, or my personal favorite, tuck it into your shorts just in the back, and let the front of the shirt hang out.

This outfit is also great on days when you feel less confident in your looks. You can use the shirt to hide insecurity points and highlight where you feel the most confident in your body.

This outfit combo is also great in terms of shoe options. You can pair this look with either cowboy boots, Doc Martens, or gym shoes.

Little Shirt, Little Pants

Similar to the last outfit, you can wear short jean shorts or athletic shorts. I usually choose based on how confident I’m feeling. Just know your booty will be moving in spandex as opposed to denim. Pair these shorts with a crop top, a tank top, or a halter top. Something with more breathability. This combo is my go-to in the summertime when the A/C feels non-existent and the patio is hotter than inside the bar. Since this outfit feels a little less country, I like to wear my boots when I do this combo, but if I’ve been dancing too much I’ll swap them for my gym shoes for comfortability’s sake.

Little Shirt, Big Pants

Next for what to wear line dancing is my fall/winter favorite. We are sticking with the crop top or tank top, and instead of shorts, you can choose jeans, cargo pants, or sweatpants. Fully depends on the vibe you are trying to set for the night. On a night that feels more casual, I love doing the sweatpants, tank top, and gym shoe combo. If the vibe is more of a party, I like to lean more towards a crop top, flared jeans, and boots. If you’re feeling brave, this is a great outfit to pair a cowboy hat with.

Cute, Flowy Dress

If you are looking to dress up a little more, a fun, flowy dress that twirls with you is always a fun and easy outfit. I usually pair this with boots. I do recommend wearing shorts underneath, as so many line dances have moves that aren’t the best for a dress.

Cute Top, Flowy Skirt

Staying on the flowy side of what to wear line dancing, we have a cute shirt/skirt combo. Again, I recommend wearing shorts underneath but wearing a dress or a skirt dancing is so much fun and super cute. These are the kind of skirts I recommend, but wear whatever you feel comfortable in! It’s about being practical to your comfort and not inhibiting your dancing. Pair this with boots as well!
