This is an interview done with @natalieclaro, read her story below! If you, or anyone you know, would like to be highlighted in The Zillennial Zine, shoot us an email at thezillennialzine@gmail.com or DM us on Instagram!
Tell us your story! Where did you begin and how did you reach the caliber you’re currently at?
I’ve been writing music since I was quite literally 5 years old, and released my first song when I was 17 years old. I have always been the only writer and producer of my music and the journey has been difficult, but I love challenges.
What makes you love what you do? How long have you been making music? Would you call it your passion?
I’ve always been obsessed with puzzles like Sudoku, and I think there is definitely a correlation there. Music production feels like cracking a code- there are so many possibilities that you have to run through before getting closer to the end goal. As for creativity and art, I absolutely love the community of performing arts. I love the level of pure joy that cloaks a venue during a live music event, and when I saw Paramore live for the first time as a teenager, I knew it was something I had to do for the rest of my life.
What are some accomplishments or milestones you’ve reached lately?
I won’t even lie this is so pathetic but I was never athletic until recently LOL. This year I’ve challenged myself in many ways, and two days ago ran my first uninterrupted mile. I’m going to work my way up to longer distances until I am UNSTOPPABLE (meaning maybe like 5 miles hahaha). It’s honestly so important to me, performing live is basically a sport and requires so much training. I can’t wait to see what my body will allow me to do.
Tell us all about your latest project!
My upcoming single has elements that I haven’t tackled before in my production processes. I spent so much time on the composition of each instrument section, I loved the idea of melodies that contradict each other before joining together in unison. I wanted it to have very faint influences of jazz. I just recently leaked the guitar and plan on sharing the piano section next. The song title is “Dizzy”, referring to the whirlwind of dwelling. I think the lyrics and music reflect it perfectly.
Do you have any advice for someone who might admire you? What do you think is the key to success?
Adrenaline, honestly. The only major strides I’ve seen from either me or any successful person I look up to, is unwavering determination. If you don’t currently have it, make changes in your life that guide you closer to it.
What do you want our readers to know about you?
I’d like your readers to know that last year I was permanently locked out of my childhood Webkinz account and I am absolutely crushed. My animals are literally starving as we speak I am being so serious. This has been on my mind daily. Other than that, hi I’m Natalie! Outside of music I love baking, spending time with friends, any outside activity, and dancing. My friends and I make silly videos all the time so if you’d like to see some of these, look at my Instagram “bits” highlight or my Twitter media section!
Anything else you would like to add?
Life is beautiful if you search for all the wonderful things it has to offer!! Get out there and find whatever brings you joy and a peace of mind <3 Depart from anything that is weighing on your heart.
