With Halloween having passed it’s time we turn our attention and holiday spirits to the next. Although we as a society may rush to the much-loved Christmas, we mustn’t forget arguably one of the best holidays, Thanksgiving! I mean it is a whole holiday dedicated to food, it’s every food lover and Taurus’ dream day. However, what I think eclipses the savory holiday is the big elephant in the room, or should I say turkey. But that doesn’t mean it has to be a throwaway holiday all together. That’s what Tik-Tok creator and cook, Katie, seems to think as well. In her new Tik-Tok series titled, “Everything but the turkey,” Katie delves into recipes perfect for Thanksgiving dinner, except the turkey, showing that Thanksgiving does not have to be all about turkey.

This past year I’ve really become interested in cooking. It’s such a great way to bring people together. It’s also a great way to feel a sense of independence and accomplishment. When you can feed yourself, you can do anything! On top that, you can save a lot of money cooking for yourself, as well as giving yourself healthier options. While Thanksgiving has quite the dark history, it’s understandable why some may not want to participate. However, my own family instead sees this day as an official day to get together with the ones you love and enjoy food. But, if Thanksgiving still doesn’t seem like something you want to do all power to you, instead you can simply enjoy the best recipes from the series that I’ve put together.
Potatoes Au Gratin
First is actually a personal favorite of mine. Potatoes au gratin. In the past I’ve especially enjoyed this dish with a nice lemony chicken, it pairs great. Aside from just using it on Thanksgiving, you can also enjoy it on any day. When I couldn’t figure out what to eat for dinner, I’ve actually just whipped this up because of how easy it is to make and how equally delicious it is. It’s also always been a big hit with whoever I’ve made it for.
Mac and Cheese
Now, mac and cheese has been a hot topic in the Tik-Tok cooking space lately. Whether it’s too watery, too dry, not crispy enough, or too crispy, there is an overwhelming amount of opinions that have made mac and cheese a very delicate subject. However, Katie’s recipe seems to be a recipe worth trying. I especially love her unique spin of adding cornflakes in for that much desired crisp. This is a recipe I will definitely be trying myself before, during, and after the holiday.
Pumpkin Pie
Why this may come as a shock, but I consider a fun fact, I have never had pumpkin pie. Honestly, it really has just never piqued my interest. I mean it really has always looked like a dry clump of orange to me. And who wants to eat that? However, Katie’s recipe looks like it will prove me wrong. Her recipe focuses on the yummy and moist results you can achieve when making a pumpkin pie. This is a treat that I can’t wait to try this year! I can already smell and feel the warmth of the oven filling up the kitchen.
Although I am in charge of the turkey this year (I have never made a turkey in my life) I have really loved Katie’s series. Not only has she provided some great Thanksgiving recipes, but recipes that you can make at any time of the year. I don’t see why not, I mean we all eat candy year round no one is saving that for Halloween. If you’re looking for a recipe to execute whatever dish you’ve been assigned, want some new recipes in general, or just want to be proven that Thanksgiving food can be great, check out Katie’s series. Everything but the turkey looks to be a new holiday staple for turkey day.
