I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m just scrolling along Instagram or TikTok and I see someone eating a random food combination that catches me off guard. And then I’ll think about it or maybe see someone else eating it another day and I start to get curious and want to try it. If you thought pineapple on pizza was controversial, prepare for Caesar salad pizza. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like—a crisp, cheesy pizza crust piled high with romaine lettuce, Parmesan, and creamy Caesar dressing. It’s the latest food combo going viral TikTok and Instagram, where people are showing off their salad-topped slices like it’s the next great invention, and I can’t lie it looks very appetizing.. (Because why have your salad next to your pizza when you can have it on your pizza?) If this sounds like the random food combos you want to try then keep reading to see how unique pizza recipes are taking over the internet.
The New Pizza Trend
One of the many great things about the internet is that it is always showing you random things and creations that you most likely wouldn’t see in your daily life. Another nice thing is that there are so many people who are passionate about food and cooking that share their recipes with the world. I have over 30 saved in my TikTok collections for recipes I make during the week or for fun events and more. There is one that I am dying to make and try, which is the viral chopped caesar salad pizza recipe. Most of us, when we think of a nice slice of pizza, it’s greasy, cheesy, loaded with pepperoni, maybe sausage, and lacking in the vegetables, by design of course. So this concept is not for everyone, but I love a nice side salad with my pizza, so why not combine the two, and no need to use a fork. It’s not clear where this recipe came from, but recently pizza places all over the country have been hopping on the trend, even in New York, where they do not play about their pizza. You can easily make it at home too, and if you want it to be extra fresh you can make the salad and caesar dressing from scratch. Salad on pizza is not the only trend that we’re seeing, but many random sweet and savory things being thrown on top to bring all the flavor to some pizza dough and cheese. This Caesar salad combo provides the right amount of crunch and cheese which makes for the perfect bite!
The Trusted Pizza Guy
For me, when I am trying new food or viral stuff, I usually need someone trustworthy or valid to confirm it’s good before I spend my money on it because a lot of things are overhyped these days. When it comes to pizza, there are so many places and slices you can choose from, it’s hard to know where to start. Thanks to social media, there is one man who is a very valid pizza reviewer and it’s Dave Portoy. If you’ve ever scrolled on TikTok and watched a guy in sunglasses take a single bite of pizza before giving out a brutally honest rating, that is Dave Portnoy, also known as the Pizza King of the Internet. Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has turned his casual love of pizza into a full-blown pizza phenomenon with his One Bite Pizza Reviews series. The concept is simple: “One bite, everybody knows the rules.” That’s his saying at least (Even though he always takes more than one bite.) His reviews have gone viral across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, making and breaking pizzerias with a single score. Some of his highest rated places have gotten major business because of his videos, which is cool to see. I love an honest review so if he were to review the Caesar salad pizza, I would probably be more inclined to try it too!
More Unique Recipes
The cool thing about pizza is that it does not have to start with the base ingredients of pizza dough, red sauce, and cheese, there are so many things to substitute that can change the vibe. When we think pizza, it’s circular, sliced, and ideally can be eaten with your hands, which is the fun part. Instead of salty and cheesy, savory is the way to go if you’re looking for something different and fun. Forget tomato sauce—dessert pizzas swap in gooey chocolate, creamy spreads, and indulgent toppings for a whole new take on pizza. Growing up, I wasn’t the biggest fan of cake so for my birthdays I would request a giant cookie instead! The pizookie (pizza + cookie) is an iconic dessert that’s part deep-dish cookie, part pizza, and very good. Imagine a warm, half-baked chocolate chip cookie crust topped with melty ice cream—pure heaven. Popularized by BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, this dessert is timeless and will always be a good option for a sweet treat. I call it my dessert pizza. Now if you’re not that into sweets, some other unique pizza ideas are: sushi pizza, pickle and ranch, and even mac n cheese pizza. These are pretty much savory recipes x 100. They may sound crazy, but I think the combinations are genius and just having these food items in the shape or form of a pizza makes it more fun to eat!
At this point, pizza is pretty much a blank canvas, to make whatever you want on it and I respect it. Whether you’re team sweet with a melty pizookie or team savory with a sushi pizza situation, there are so many options of weird and wonderful combos to try, and if you want a need idea it’s likely to just be a click away. I know that some of them sound a little chaotic, but sometimes that’s the fun of it and you may turn out to love it.
