I don’t know about you but for me trying to sleep or read on a long plane ride is never really possible because of the small seats, crowded rows, and usually cold air. I find myself trying to keep myself busy because I want the time to pass as fast as possible so I can get to my travel destination! Anything from listening to music, playing games on my phone, or looking through photos is always fun for me but my favorite thing to do is throw on my headphones, turn up the volume, and put on a great movie. There are always so many to choose from, but some movies are just meant to be watched on the plane and I’m here to guide you through the best selections that will get you locked in and make your ride feel like a breeze with this in-flight movie survival guide.
The Airplane Classics
Many airlines these days offer in-flight entertainment whether it is on the airline app or the screens on the seatbacks. I love scrolling through and seeing what they have even though in the back of my head I already have some in mind. Some movies are just meant to be watched on an airplane even if you have seen them already they never get old. You need something that keeps you engaged, but isn’t too complicated or heavy for the in-flight mood. For me, one of my favorites of all time is Crazy Rich Asians. I don’t care how many times I’ve seen this movie but it will never get old to me. If you’re looking for a rom-com that’s more than just cute and funny, Crazy Rich Asians delivers with charm and a good story. It’s lighthearted but also features beautiful moments that will make you laugh and cry. It’s a good mix of humor, romance, and drama, making it an excellent pick when you’re just looking to sit back and enjoy a great movie. Another classic for me is Oceans Eleven this is a nostalgic movie and it is so entertaining, filled with all of the best actors for a great performance. Sometimes you need a fun movie with a bit of style, and Ocean’s Eleven is a perfect pick for that. The great cast and fast-paced heist will keep you entertained and engaged throughout the flight. It’s not too intense, but it’s clever enough to make you feel like you’re part of the crew. Plus, the theme and fun editing keep you locked in, no matter how many snacks you grab during the flight! These are some of my favorite movies in general, but also my go-to’s on a flight and when I know I have a long trip ahead of me, I can turn these on and have a great time.
Add A Little Music
Everyone has different tastes in movies and genres but some Oscar-nominated films are so good that it doesn’t matter if it’s not your typical taste. For example, musicals are not everyone’s cup of tea (including me). But one airplane-worthy one to watch is La La Land If you’re in the mood for something a bit more emotional, La La Land offers the perfect balance of romance, music, and heartbreak. The stunning visuals and incredible performances from Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling make it a captivating watch from start to finish. Plus, the soundtrack is so good, that it’ll have you humming long after the flight ends. This movie is iconic even for those who wouldn’t typically like a musical. Just beware you might shed a tear on your flight! Speaking of romance musicals, Mamma Mia! For those who like to sing along (or wish they could), Mamma Mia! is a blast. It’s upbeat, full of catchy songs, and easy to follow, even with the distractions of the cabin. The movie’s energy is infectious, making it a feel-good pick that’ll have you tapping your feet and grinning by the time you land. This is also a great airplane movie because they filmed on a Greek island with beautiful scenery which will put you into vacation mode too.
Childhood Favorites
I grew up on Disney movies so some of them will never get old to me and they are essentials for the plane as well. On the flight I was just on for Spring Break, the woman next to me was watching a new Disney movie on her phone, it was great. It doesn’t matter how old or young you are they are good for you. The Incredibles is one of my all-time favorites. I used to watch it with my family all the time so it is very nostalgic. The Incredibles is an animated movie that works for just about anyone, no matter their age. It’s entertaining, funny, and packs enough action to keep you engaged for the whole flight. Plus, it’s not so complicated that you can’t enjoy it if you’re only half-paying attention. The family dynamic adds a layer of heart, making it feel like the perfect mix of adventure and emotion, it is very cute! Finding Nemo is another essential. Sometimes, you just want a comfort movie that feels like a warm hug. Finding Nemo does just that. Whether it’s the heartwarming story, the lovable characters, or the stunning animation, it’s a movie that’s bound to bring a smile to your face. Plus, it’s a great option for families, making it the perfect movie to get lost in when you need a little distraction.
