When I watch romantic comedies, I often become fascinated with the storylines and characters. I find myself sometimes thinking about how I wish they had done things differently. I guess you could say I just love romcoms! Oh, man, there are so many good romcoms to pick from. We could go as far as the early 2000s and even more recent ones. The actors do such an amazing job that I find myself immersed in emotions. Do you ever relate to a character, though? For example, the character is such a softy or plain out goofy, and you’re like that’s totally me, because same! You might even sit there and think to yourself, “What romcom character am I?” Well, worry not, my fellow romcom lovers, because today we’re diving deep into different romcoms to help you figure out which character you’re most like.

Early 2000s

Love is already complex, but adding other factors, such as a bet and a work assignment, can make things even more complicated. Some might call it Bull***t. If you’ve watched “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” then you probably understand that reference. So, who are you in this messy love story? Are you a grounded, career-driven person? Or an ambitious, chill person willing to bet on anything to get the contract of your dreams? Maybe you’re a hopeless romantic who comes on too strong? You’re probably like, “Well, what romcom character am I?” I got you!

If you’re a grounded person who worked hard to stay on a path towards your passion, aka your career, congrats, you are Andie Anderson! Let’s put it this way, you’re so career-driven that there’s a chance you’re willing to fumble the love of your life. No seriously. In fact, you’re so career-driven that you’re the type of person who would convince your friend to pretend to be a couples therapist just to see your work assignment through.

On the other hand, if you’re ambitious but chill and willing to do anything to acquire a work contract, even making a person fall madly in love with you just to win a bet, I hate to break it to you, but you are Benjamin Barry, aka Benjy, lol. Okay, I know he was a bit cocky in the beginning and maybe not the most favorable character, but he kind of grows on you throughout the film, right? If you’re anything like Benjy, you enjoy being a free spirit, value family and are competitive AF. Additionally, you are incredibly patient. I’m talking about 1-10, a total of 10.

Who’s the hopeless romantic, you may ask? Michelle Rueben is the friend who pretends to be a therapist. She also inspires the pitch for the work assignment that Andie takes on in the movie. If you love, love, and are not afraid to show it, then you are most likely like Michelle. Always take love as it comes and stay open to the possibility of finding your person. Sometimes, you’re a little gloomy and emotional, but you keep your head up no matter what. When your friends have crazy ideas, you support them and don’t ask questions.

For this next one, let’s get nostalgic! Taking it back to the movie “Wedding Crashers” with the unstoppable duo Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. The concept of crashing a wedding sounds insane, but they make it look so fun! Which version of John Beckwith are you? You might even be more like Jeremy Grey.

Let’s see. If you are the friend who’s always down to have fun regardless of whether there is an itinerary or not, then you are more like John Beckwith at the beginning of the film. Be that as it may, perhaps you mature overnight, realize an itinerary is essential, and you long for real romantic connections. So, in that case, you’re more like John towards the movie’s second half. Awww, look at you, ready to be in love!

Moving along, there is also a chance that you’re a total Jeremy Grey, full of youth but also scared of any real commitment. As a full-on Jeremy, you enjoy being the life of the party and are not afraid of a challenge.  Nevertheless, if you are a passionate lover and caring friend, you are Jeremy in the movie’s second half.

Late 2000s

Do you know who else was gloomy and emotional? Marcus Kim from the funny movie “Always Be My Maybe.” Luckily, he was only briefly sad. Then, we watched his character development unfold throughout the film. The real question is, are you like Marcus and still finding yourself? Or maybe you’re more like Ali Wong and have your career and goals figured out. There’s a chance your personality traits align more with Veronica Ali’s bestie. Full disclosure, if you’re like Marcus before dating Ali you’re still looking for a purpose in life and not looking to change your routine. However, if you’re open to change and are finally looking for your calling, you’re Marcus post-dating Ali. How cool, right? Heck, you might even start a band.

Do you like cooking? Do you enjoy traveling? Are you ready to settle down? Perhaps you have all your aspirations in order. Congrats! You are Ali Wong. You are ready to take on any and all projects.

Every dynamic duo needs a trusty sidekick whom they can confide in. If you are reliable, a multitasker, outgoing, funny, and a diva, you are obviously Veronica.

Speaking of multitasking, who do you think you are most like from the movie “The Life List?” By the way, this is probably the most heart-wrenching film I’ve seen in a while. Are you Alex, Brad, or Elizabeth?

Oh, sweet, sweet Alex. In the movie’s first half, she is entirely different from who she is towards the end. Okay, if you are a total momma’s girl, looking for your calling and super family-oriented, way to go, you are Alex! You might also be Alex if you can take on different obstacles at the same time while managing your social life. You even have a talent for molding young minds in a mentoring or some sort of teaching capacity.

Maybe you’re nothing like Alex, but you relate more to Brad instead. You are kind, resourceful, intelligent, assertive, and compassionate, like Brad throughout the film.

I apologize for ending on such a sad note, but if you’re like Elizabeth, there’s a chance you are the mom of your friend group. You also enjoy hosting, planning, and being prepared for any obstacles that may come your way.
