Dorm Room Essentials That Go Beyond Just Decor

If you are heading off to college or university and you will be living there, then you have a dorm room you probably want to make as comfortable and versatile as possible. Here are a few essentials you should get that aren’t just decor.

Air Purifier

Firstly, a dorm room air purifier by Alen is perfect for any space, therefore, it is no surprise that you should get one for your dorm. Simply put, an air purifier sucks in the dirty air in your room, cleans it using a series of filters, and then puts clean air back into your space.

If you are in a shared dorm room, or you are living in a building with multiple people cooking, creating their own smells, etc, then having your room filled with fresh air is a must.

Dehumidifier

On the other hand, living with a lot of people and having shared showers can cause a lot of moisture. This can lead to mold and bacteria buildup, which is only made worse during the Winter when you can go weeks without opening your windows for more than a few minutes at a time.

A dehumidifier essentially dries the air out and removes the moisture from it, which can help prevent mold growth, and stop that unpleasant musty smell.

Air Fryer

Cooking is always a challenge in a dorm room, but fear not, there are several pieces of tech and tools you can use to make it easier than ever. First off, an air fryer can be used for making French fries, baking a cake, and almost everything in between.

Not only can they be super-compact, but they are ideal for both cooking and reheating leftovers, and can replace several other appliances you may think you need.

Electric Skillet

If you don’t want to air fry steak, eggs, or stir fry, an electric skillet is for you. Once again, these compact appliances are simple, but offer exactly what you need: an adjustable hot plate for cooking and frying.

Many people will often only opt for an electric skillet or air fryer, depending on their needs, but if you have the space and the budget, both appliances will cover most of your cooking needs.

Mini Fridge

If you are staying in a dormitory that has a shared kitchen, fridge space will be limited, and you run the risk of a dorm mate accidentally eating your leftovers you were saving. Instead, invest in a mini fridge that can fit in the corner of your room.

If you are the only one using it, it is the perfect size for storing some ingredients and a few drinks, both of which can remain untouched.

Kettle

While not essential if you have an electric skillet for boiling water, a kettle will make your morning coffee far easier to make. Additionally, you can boil water for a quick cup of instant ramen, or to fill a hot water bottle during those chilly evenings. Again, it isn’t essential, but it takes up minimal space and is perfect for the coffee and tea drinkers out there.

Microwave

A microwave is far more useful than you may think when it comes to saving time. Whether it is used to heat up a bowl of oats for breakfast, make popcorn for a movie night, or even cook a meal for you.

Many more expensive convection microwaves can be used as mini ovens, allowing you to bake, broil, or roast a smaller portion of your favorite meal. There is no need for an oven when you can make a roasted turkey leg right in your dorm room.

Mini Robot Vacuum

Keeping your space clean can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you are day is packed with classes and you spend your evenings with your university clubs, hanging out with friends, or playing sports.

However, a mini robot vacuum will keep your floors spotless all day, whether you are there or not. Similar to a Roomba, these nifty little devices roll around cleaning your floor, before heading back to their hub, emptying themselves, and starting it all again.

Organizers

No matter how big or small your dorm room is, never underestimate the power of having organizers for almost everything you own. When you are in a shared living space, it can be difficult to keep track of all your belongings, and a small space can get incredibly messy quickly, even if you go just one day without packing everything away.

Therefore, invest in organizers that you use for your socks, clothes, books, charging cables, and anything else you may have several of. They will help keep your space mess-free, they make things easier to find, and you also don’t have to worry about misplacing anything or losing something under the pile of laundry you’ve been putting off.

Under-Bed Storage

Under-bed storage is ideal for packing away those things you don’t need all the time, but you still need on hand. For instance, you can store an extra blanket, Winter clothing, a stockpile of cooking ingredients, etc.

Unless you are living in a massive dorm room that could be mistaken for an apartment, you will likely be short on space; therefore, making extra storage space where possible will only make your life easier.
