Witchcraft and fantasy movies have long perpetuated glamour witchcraft as a form of shapeshifting, seduction, or abundance attraction! The Craft, The Love Witch, and X-Men all have examples of witches using seduction (or shapeshifting, in X-Men’s case) to get what they want. While shapeshifting isn’t real (sadly), glamour witchcraft is very much alive and well for beginner and advanced modern witches alike!

The Origins of Glamour Magic

Glamour can be traced back to various origins, some of which are based on Celtic, Greek, Roman, and even Egyptian mythology. In Celtic and Scottish Folklore, glamour is most often associated with faes or faerie magic, typically used to conceal appearances or manipulate insight. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite (and her son, Cupid) were known for using glamor magic for beauty purposes. The Egyptian goddess Isis used her glamour to shapeshift, seduce, and heal. Many fables, early stories, and modern fantasies have probably used glamour magic to depict seduction and manipulation; Glamour is everywhere!

What is Glamour Magic?

So… what is glamour magick?

Glamor witchcraft involves magick that focuses on using your personal power to manifest your ultimate desires! Glamour magick doesn’t just have to be about enchanting your makeup or focusing on your external beauty, there are a few main types of glamour magick:

  • Beauty: This typically involves charging your makeup or usual beauty items (like hairbrushes, face masks, hair products, lotions, etc.) under a full moon. I’ve done this to a few different lipstick or gloss products to help me gain confidence or luck during dates or interviews! You can use sigils while applying your makeup or say a few self-love affirmations while brushing your hair.
  • Fashion: Enchanting your clothing or accessories to glow up your appearance! This could include using color magic to manifest what you’re trying to attract, charging and cleansing your jewelry, or just simply dressing in what makes you most confident!
  • Health: This doesn’t just have to be exercise! It could be taking care of your skin via bathing/shower rituals, taking your vitamins, or walking in a park!

Glamour magic can be pretty powerful due to its associations with the Law of Attraction—while glamor is typically associated with appearance, you can use it to attract new job opportunities, relationships, or even new friends!

Your goals could be specific or broad, and can be great for confidence-building if you’re looking for some extra help in certain areas of life! Glamour magic can also be pretty convenient and easy to do—it doesn’t always require an altar or specific tools, making it a great beginner’s daily practice for witches.

How Do Glamour Spells Work?

A glamour spell is a spell that changes how others perceive you, but they do not actually change anything physical about your appearance! It can help you feel more confident in your appearance, gender expression, or competency levels during a job interview or date. Again, this is all about perception, so a beauty spell may not physically change your appearance, but it’ll change how people around you view your attractiveness!

There’s some debate over the morality of glamour magick, which can be a little intimidating to start with; if you don’t feel comfortable performing these kinds of rituals, I would advise against it!

A Few Items To Get You Started

Glamour magic is intensely personal; I believe that you don’t need to buy anything aesthetic or invest too much money in it. If you don’t wear makeup, don’t feel pressured to start! As long as you like your things and routine, don’t feel pressure to over-consume! Here are some things you can enchant:

  • Hairbrush/Comb
  • Makeup
  • Makeup Brushes
  • Your Favorite Perfumes
  • Your Favorite Jewelry (Necklaces, Rings, Bracelets, Earrings)
  • Lotion
  • Shea Butters/Oils
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Your Body Wash
  • Your Skincare Items
  • Nail Polish
  • Gua Shas or Face Rollers
  • Your Hair Care Items
  • Moon Water
  • Herbs like Rose, Hibiscus, Basil
  • Pink Candles
  • Crystals like Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, Carnelian

A Few Rituals To Get You Started

I do most of my glamour witchcraft rituals on Friday! Friday’s ruling planet is Venus, which is associated with the Goddess Aphrodite, romance, and love rituals—it’s an excellent day for glamour, buying flowers, or practicing self-care. However, you can do it whenever you see fit, or when you have time!! Here are a few things to get you started:

How to Enchant Items:

There are a few different ways to enchant an item; it all depends on how you work best!

  1. Cleanse the item you want to enchant.
  2. Write your intention on a bay leaf/piece of paper, light a corresponding color candle, or simply hold the item in your hands.
  3. Visualize your overall goal.
  4. Burn the piece of paper or the bay leaf and pass the item through the smoke.
  5. Blow out the candle if it’s burning, and seal your intention.

Enchanting doesn’t have to be fancy, especially if you’re not comfortable working with fire! Outside of enchantment, there are so many little things you can do. Here are some rituals to get you started:

  • In the shower, visualize the water washing away the negativity or bad vibes you feel.
  • Enchant your jewelry for confidence/protection, or buy crystal jewelry that adheres to your intentions.
  • Use color magick to manifest what you desire by painting your nails specific colors, using eyeshadow or lipstick, or wearing particular colors.
  • Draw runes or sigils in your shoes, in your makeup bag, in your wallet, on the mirror, or with your makeup that correspond with your intentions.
  • Make and strain oils with a castor base and dried herbs like rose, hibiscus, and lavender.
  • Fill a bath with pink salts, water-safe crystals, a corresponding bath bomb, or dried herbs.
  • Whisper intentions while braiding or combing your hair.
  • Light a pink, red, or white candle while getting ready to imbue confidence and self-love.
  • Brew tea with the corresponding herbs.
  • Charge your products—especially things like makeup brushes, jewelry, and perfume—in the light of the full moon.

There are so many things you can do with glamour magic! But don’t be deceived, true beauty is not only on the outside! This magic is also not a fix-all if you don’t have good intentions!
