Money Shouldn’t Hinder you From Showing your Love

Mother’s Day is upon us! It’s time to celebrate the most special woman in our lives: Mom. The one who did everything for us, who took care of us and raised us. The one who truly loves us the most. And with celebrating her, we must show our appreciation in one way or another. That doesn’t mean we must always go above and beyond, finding extravagant gifts and expensive presents. Sometimes, a simple gesture ends up meaning the most to our maternal figures.

It’s important to recognize what our mothers like. What they’re interested in, what their hobbies are, what they like to do with their time. When we think of gifts for Mother’s Day, we usually think of household items. A new vacuum, a new set of cleaning supplies, perhaps. Cute sheets or bathroom furniture. Decor for the house. But such items can be condescending towards them as individuals, even unknowingly. Their existence is not catered towards household chores, regardless of what we’ve been taught the mother’s role is.

Unfortunately, society has conditioned many of us to see the woman of the house as the one solely responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the house. She is the one who cooks dinner, who watches over the children. She is designed to be in the house, taking charge of all those chores and errands, to sacrifice herself and her time for that of her children and family. But mothers deserve so much more than that; they are so much more than that. They have their own personality, their own thoughts and passions that deserve to be recognized.

And while many moms deserve the whole world and nothing less, it might be financially difficult to find a gift up to par. And there’s nothing wrong with delivering a small yet sentimental object, full of love and motivated by the adoration you have for your mama. Here are some Mother’s Day handmade gift ideas for those who want to express their deep affection and devotion, but do not have all the means to be restricted by their wallets.

I Love You to the Moon and Beyond

Handmade cards are always a safe choice, and you can personalize them and make them as exaggerated as you’d like. Many YouTube tutorials show and explain in great detail how to cut, style, and stencil various card designs. Adding a fun pop-up feature, or a moving aspect in your card could light up her day.

If your mom loves jewelry, making a handmade, personalized piece could be the perfect idea for you. Craft stores like Michaels or local craft supply places have all the materials you need. Beads, string, wires, clasps and pins, whatever is necessary to carry out your Mother’s Day handmade gift. If she’s not a big jewelry enthusiast, there are other creations you could dabble in, like painting or drawing, crocheting a blanket or small item for her, or, if you’re really dedicated, using pottery to express your love. Many cities and neighborhoods have a local pottery workshop, and many have affordable hourly rates. Throwing some clay on the wheel and watching your idea come to life is greatly satisfying, and can bring a big smile to moms face. Like a hand-painted turkey for Thanksgiving, making a finger painting can be a creative way to create a gift.

Another simple, yet heartwarming, Mother’s Day handmade gift idea is flower pressing. The process is relatively simple and straightforward. Take some flowers and dry them thoroughly by pressing between two absorbent materials, weighing them down with heavy objects, like books. You can utilize a microwave to do so quickly, or plan ahead and start a few weeks early. You can use different flowers and colors to create a beautiful collage, and even cut the petals to spell out a message or a specific design.

Flowers are a great tool to use to create a Mother’s Day gift. While a traditional bouquet is a great staple, you can collect smaller flowers and make a cardboard wall of the plant. Poke small holes in the item, and thread the stem of the flower through, taping them to the back of the board. You can also paint the background to make it colorful and vibrant.

To My Biggest Supporter, All my Love

Mother’s Day is the one day of the year dedicated fully to our mamas. While we love and appreciate them every day of the year, Mothering Sunday is really our opportunity to pour our hearts out and show them the depths of our love. We shouldn’t be limited by our financial status and feel that it is hindering us from creating or finding something good enough for our special lady.

Hopefully, these Mother’s Day handmade gift ideas are able to offer inspiration if you are in need. Happy celebrating!
