When people say AI is making humans “devolve,” they mean that relying on artificial machines for thinking can cause our natural, mental, and physical skills to fade. Compared to our physical self, our muscles grow weak without exercise. Outsourcing memory, navigation, and problem-solving to smart tools can dull those abilities over time. As with most things in life, there will be positive and negative impacts on society while artificial intelligence continues to transform the world we are living in.
Cognitive Effort Surrounding AI Usage
At least from what I have seen, people’s first experience with newer AI was ChatGPT. I can understand how it may seem incredible to some. A robotic search engine that can answer any question, solve any issue, and create new thoughts and ideas for you! However, like everything in life, there needs to be a balance, and some people lose control. It grew to a point where people stopped training their brains to think for themself and question authority, but have slowly been trained to swallow any information someone tells them. The lack of filtering and security exists in their brain, as well as the cognitive defense against popular viral structures that have come up in the past years.

The combination of AI and other methods of modern technology have shut peoples brains down. Even the lack of third spaces! There are very few people who go out to the library and read a physical book, write down notes physically on paper, physically listen to physical media. The physical world has been reverted to a digital world, and it is what we are now being forced to grow up with, even when our reality around us is easily graspable. Delusions and mental harm enablement are shown in several studies. “I feel like there’s a deeper layer to reality. Can information be encoded in the universe in ways we don’t understand?” Our matter is reality and is fundamentally informational.
AI Art and Generative AI
As convincing as AI might be to some people, real-life artists can spot mistakes and edited parts of an AI-generated image that is “supposed” to be real art. There is no original AI art, and there never will be. It has been known that AI steals bits and pieces from other artists’ work and makes its own jumbled form of art that is “AI art.” AI cannot create man-made structures of artworks, and while most of our lives are digital and online, there is a physical process to everything we create. This is consistently backed up by real life artists. “Generative A.I. tools can produce photo-realistic images, typically in response to written prompts. These images are available for purchase from major stock photography agencies alongside traditional photos.” Generated images are taken from stock photos, which were created by real-life people. There is no future, or should ever be a future, where AI replaces artists because AI uses art to create its own ugly versions of art.
AI will not be able to replace the human brain, as far as we know, but it can melt and mend the way we use it. While the fear of the unknown exists and existed with every new piece of technology, this one is worsening people’s mental and physical state to nothing.
