A: Kyle: Colton and I were introduced by a mutual friend after I was asking around looking for a drummer to join a band. The two of us met outside of a Starbucks and talked about clothes and our favorite records for hours. Colton didn’t seem like he had any desire to do anything else with his time in life and for the first time, I felt matched. The next day we were in rehearsal and became best friends almost instantly over long drives to our first practices. We started making beats and driving to get Taco Bell with extra hot sauce. The beats started to sound kinda cool as we were practicing our craft and touring the country together. We figured we’d keep going as long as people were showing up. Then our fans started showing up in a pretty big way, so Colton and I had to keep going.

Q: What makes you love what you do? How long have you been making music? Would you call it your passion?

A: Colton: Kyle and I have basically been playing music our whole lives. For me personally, it’s really all I feel I’m good at. I would 100% call it my passion. What I love about playing music is the community it’s created. Our fans mean the absolute world to us and are the coolest people I know. They have created a community so strong and are so supportive of us, I don’t know what we’d do without them.

Q: What are some accomplishments or milestones you’ve reached lately?

A: Colton: Playing the Troubadour was a huge accomplishment for us. We grew up watching videos of our favorite bands playing that stage. It was unreal to get there and play it for ourselves.

Q: Tell us about “Chains”!!

A: “Chains” started as a plea for us all to get our shit together. The world has felt like it’s about to end for literally our entire lives and the anxiety that speaks that language is dark and tormenting and we’re exhausted from it. Why are we starting our 20’s with doomsday looming in the background? Writing Chains all in one day, it became an anthem of hope rather than succumbing to the fear we were hearing on the TV. Now it’s yours to scream as the world caves in.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone who is starting out in the music industry?

A: Colton: Quit now.

Just joking. In all seriousness, the best advice Kyle and I have ever gotten is to keep your head down and grind. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, just do what you feel is true to yourself.

Q: What do you want our readers to know about you and your music?

A: We want them to know that, at the obvious risk of sounding like a cornball right now, our music and our community can be a safe place for you. We started this whole thing as a way to call out to the actual cool people that exist in this world, and chances are you are one of us. Come join the Kult.
