6 Books You Have To Read Before They Hit The Big Screen

I’m sure you’ve heard the lifelong debate between book vs. movie. Whether it’s about if you’ve read the book before watching the movie, if you like the book better than the movie or simply the back and forth comparison between the two. Books are often turned into on-screen adaptations, some amazing, while others falling flat. If you’re ready to get in on the conversation between book vs. adaptation, I’ve rounded up all the books turning into movies this year.

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

According to IMBD, “Where The Crawdads Sing” will be coming out this July! It will be directed by Olivia Newman and its cast includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Harris Dickinson, Taylor John Smith and many more. See full list here. If you haven’t read it yet, this novel is about a young girl living on the marsh in the South, who finds herself in the middle of a murder case.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

While a release date is not out yet, there is a lot happening in the “It Ends With Us” world. First of all, Hoover recently announced a sequel to the novel “It Starts with Us” which will be out in October of this year. But beyond that, a film adaptation directed by Justin Baldoni has been confirmed. Previously, Baldoni directed “Five Feet Apart,” another book-to-film adaptation. It Ends With Us follows Lily, who comes to terms with the reality of domestic abuse and the familial cycles it has caused.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

According to Harper’s Bazaar, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” will be turned into an Amazon series sometime this year. Han already has her “To All The Boys I Loved Before” series turned into a trilogy on Netflix, which came to a close last year. This series follows a main character named Belly, who finds herself in a love triangle with two brothers.

Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

Much like Sally Rooney’s novel “Normal People,” which was turned into a Hulu series, “Conversations with Friends” is also set to premiere as a Hulu TV show in spring. Conversations with Friends is about best friends and ex-lovers Fraces and Bobbi, and their change of dynamic when they meet older couple Melissa and Nick. It’s a tale of friendship, love, and everything in between.

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Some time this year, “Daisy Jones & The Six” will be turned into a limited series on Amazon. This novel is set between 1970 and 1980, and follows a band called “The Six,” along with their new lead singer “Daisy Jones.” It’s a behind the scenes look at what happened between the band members and why they only ever made one album together.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians by Rick Riordan

I know what you’re thinking: Again? Well, like I said, some movie adaptations aren’t good… and the original Percy Jackson movies are one of those examples. Many fans noticed huge changes between the books and movies that they were not happy with. This time, a Disney+ series hopes to honor fans, with Riordan there to make sure things go right this time (who was not a part of the original films). We have a long time until this series hits our screens but fans are excited the author has such a large role this time around.
