Fall is already in full swing, and I can say that there hasn’t ever been a season I’ve loved more. Pumpkin patches, warm apple cider, scary movies airing every day, the leaves turning orange and all the festivities can make any fall lover’s heart swell with joy. And for those fall lovers who are looking to spice up things this autumn, what’s a better way to commemorate the season than with a tattoo?

Whether you’re a tattoo enthusiast or someone who wants to be adventurous by getting inked for the first time, tattoos are a great way to express yourself through art. There are so many things that go into getting a tattoo– money, placement for the tattoo, the type of tattoo, the artist you want, etc. But the most important thing is the design.

Finding the design that will forever be etched onto your skin can be tough and with so many endless possibilities of what to choose from, it can be overwhelming. But looking for inspiration in the things that are around you and in the things you love can be most helpful. And what better inspiration to look for that than in the fall season? So without further ado, here are five autumn-inspired tattoo ideas to help you feel connected with the spirit and festivities of fall.

I Couldn’t Be“Leaf” It!

Apologies for the horrible pun, but autumn would be incomplete without mentioning the leaves falling. As the weather gets colder and the trees start changing, there is a certain warmth that comes from hearing the crunch of leaves under your feet and seeing the insane amount of colors on them. So if you’re looking for a more colorful design to reflect the leaves changing color, I would recommend checking out some leaf inspiration.

These tattoos right here actually mimic the movement of the leaves falling from a tree and the color schemes are perfect for the transition from summer to fall. Getting a leaf-inspired tattoo is perfect for minimalists who want something dainty, small and aren’t afraid of color.

Festive and Fun Pumpkins

Pumpkin pie, pumpkin patches, pumpkin carving, pumpkin spice!? It is impossible to think about fall without having pumpkins come to mind. With a pumpkin tattoo design, you can easily spice it up to look like the jack-o-lanterns you carve out to scare off spirits or you can make it silly and family-friendly. Plus for my Halloween lovers, this tattoo idea will be up your alley!

For those who are less on the scary side and prefer the cute aesthetic, these adorable matching pumpkins are perfect for a pair of best friends who love fall. And if thrills and chills get you going through the fall season, definitely check out this spooky jack-o-lantern idea that has bats and even a knife sticking out of it! Isn’t that kind of edgy or what?

BOO! Spooky Ghosts!

I hope we didn’t scare you too much with the title but if you are a lover of the supernatural and paranormal activity, these ghost tattoo ideas are certainly for you. Ghosts are a quintessential part of the spooky season. With horror movies based on spirits, shows made about ghosthunting and even little kids dressing up in white sheets to go trick-or-treating, ghosts are quite difficult to ignore.

This adorable little tattoo flash sheet has a ghost to fit every type of personality, and if you’re looking for something silly to get to tell a funny story to others when they ask you “Why that tattoo?”, I couldn’t recommend this enough. And if you have a big friend group who is down to all get matching tattoos, these little ghosts are perfect and have something for everyone.

Spooky, Scary Skeletons Send Shivers Down Your Spine!

While ghosts may be a huge part of the spirit of Halloween, skeletons are equally as important. With this kind of tattoo idea, you can practically get this on any part of your body and it will look just as cool. For my horror-loving fans, this can definitely go down the scary and unconventional route. For example, a tattoo of an exoskeleton on top of your hand gives off the coolest vibes and makes it look like your bones are inside out. And if you’re feeling even more hardcore, a skull tattoo could be the perfect way to commemorate the Halloween season.

Paying tribute to the song “Spooky Scary Skeletons,” by Andrew Gold which became a huge dancing hit on TikTok, it would be an absolute shame if we didn’t include a dancing skeleton!

An Ode To Halloween Favorites In Film

One of my absolute favorite things about the fall season is the return of scary, bewitching and insanely fun movies centered around Halloween. And with these films being so well-loved by everyone, the nostalgia is certainly there and makes it easy to find meaning for your next tattoo.

For those who are fans of witches and the movie “Hocus Pocus”, this tattoo idea was made just for you. “Hocus Pocus” is a Halloween cult classic, and the tattoo of the three brooms from the three witches in the movie can be a fun tattoo for a friend group of three or a trio of sisters.

If you’re more like me and fell in love with Tim Burton movies, you’ll know that when the Halloween season comes, we are definitely watching “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride”. Burton’s movies and characters would be perfect for those who appreciate and love fine-line tattoo work. These flash tattoo sheets should give you an abundance amount of inspiration if you’re looking to get a “Burton-esque” type of tattoo this fall.

Of course, we can’t forget about this childhood classic for Zillennials everywhere. “Coraline” TERRIFIED me as a child and because of this movie, I was actively looking for hidden doors and button keys around my house. But as I’ve grown and rewatched the film hundreds of times, the nostalgia from this movie is 100% there. So if you fell in love with the aesthetics of the movie and the character Coraline Jones, I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to commemorate the movie than through a unique tattoo.
