Q: Tell us your story! Where did you begin and how did you reach the caliber you’re currently at?

A: I began by teaching myself guitar when I was a teenager in my small town. When I moved to Iowa City for college, I did covers at an open mic where I was encouraged to write my own music. My best friend gave me a poetry lesson and that helped me feel more confident in writing lyrics. From that first song onward, I’ve been writing, playing and growing. I think I’m where I’m at now by not giving up. I think persistence and kindness go a long way.

Q: What makes you love what you do? How long have you been making music? Would you call it your passion?

A: I LOVE connecting with people. Whether it be fellow musicians on stage or in the studio or audience members. I’ve been writing music for the last six years. It’s definitely become my passion and life.

Q: What are some accomplishments or milestones you’ve reached lately?

A: My song Headgear (released as a single a while ago but on the record coming out soon!) is doing really well organically on streaming sites. I’ve gotten back into touring and playing live at this capacity feels so good. Putting myself out there despite fear of failure feels like a big accomplishment 🙂

Q: Tell us about your most recent work!!

A: My forthcoming record is an accumulation of songs I wanted to record in a big way a few years ago. I thought deserved more attention, production, and energy than songs prior to them. I’ve since been sitting on the finished product for a while and am really excited to finally put it out there for people to hear!

Q: Do you have any advice for someone who is starting out in the music industry?

A: Trust your gut and know that good things take time. Persistence is key. The long way is the best way to achieve longterm success and goals.

@blakemills99 song If I’m Unworthy is the reason I ever picked up a slide. Honestly my favorite guitarist ever. #slide #glass #guitar

Q: What do you want our readers to know about you and your music?

A: I value honesty and growth. My music reflects a lot of that whether it be from my personal life or the lives of loved ones. I want people to feel whatever feeling comes about when they listen to my music. Feel it all the way through and keep moving forward. It’s all we can do!

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

A: I hope whoever takes the time to read this and/or listen to my record knows how thankful I am. Time is precious and I appreciate it so much when people take the time to connect with my music! Thanks again for asking me these questions.
