If you’re an avid reader and lover of all things bookish, you’ve probably stumbled across book accounts on Instagram and have seen some amazingly organized bookshelves, super aesthetic book covers and reading corners that just scream cozy and adorable. You’ve probably looked at all of these at some point and wished they were yours. (Been there!)
The good news is, it’s pretty easy to make your own reading nook that’s both cute and useful. If you have a corner of your house or room that you think would be a great spot for reading and love a good do-it-yourself project, you’ve come to the right place! Here is your guide to getting the perfect DIY reading nook.
Where To Start
To start planning your dream reading corner, you’ll have to identify the perfect place to set it up. An empty area in your house that’s near a window is especially perfect because you get to read while you enjoy the sunshine, soothing rain, or dramatic snowfall. Regardless, any corner of your home will work for this, as long as it’s a good size. Once you’ve located the perfect spot, you can start thinking about what things you want in your reading nook, and we’ve got some ideas to help.
What You’ll Want In It
You’ll probably be spending a lot of time in your reading nook, so it’s important to make it as comfortable, cozy and functional as possible! First, think about what kind of reading chair you want. The size, color and shape are all important to think about. If you want a bright and open space that will inspire you, this sunshine yellow chair is everything! Or, if you’d rather go for a neutral color scheme, this beige chair is a great option and looks super comfy.
Once you’ve picked the perfect chair, you’ll want somewhere to set your coffee, tea and snacks while you read. A small side table is great because it can save space and prevent you from spilling anything on your precious books. This accent table is a perfect size and has a classic modern look to it. Remember to keep it stacked with your favorite snacks and all the books you plan on reading next.
If the space is big enough, consider getting a bookshelf to place on one side of your chair. This shelf is so unique and is the perfect size for a reading nook. With a bookshelf close by, you’ll be able to access all your favorite books quickly and easily while you nestle into your comfy chair all day.
Plants
Another great thing to add and give life to your reading nook is plants! Having some green in your space will brighten it up and make for super cute decor. You can buy plants that spill over the pot and place them on your table or go for bigger plants that you can set beside your chair. With a comfy chair, bookshelf, tiny table and greenery, your space will be so cozy and relaxing that you’ll never want to leave it!
Don’t forget that making your own DIY reading nook doesn’t have to break the bank. You can check out your local thrift store to see if they have any cool chairs, tables or shelves. A lot of times, you can get super cheap pieces while thrifting that only needs a little bit of stitching or paint to make them new again. Thrifting for furniture is an especially great option because you’ll be doing a favor for the environment and your wallet. Plus, you can find super cool, one-of-a-kind pieces that no other reading nook will have.
