Sundays are enjoyed by two groups of people: those who are avid football fans and those who are avid relaxation fans. There’s hardly a day that’s as capable of encompassing all your favorite things like a good football Sunday, even if you don’t like football! For me, the perfect autumn Sunday includes going for a run, cooking/baking comfort foods, lighting a fall candle and relaxing on the couch while the game plays in the background. Many tiktoks have even referred to the current football season as “nap season,” just because of how much they love relaxing and getting cozy during the game. However, everything changed when Taylor Swift was spotted in attendance at the Kansas City Chiefs game last week. Those of us who preferred to partake in other Sunday activities suddenly were given a reason to watch football, and we have Travis Kelce to thank for that.
Swift’s attendance at Kelce’s games came as a bit of a shock to many of us, especially since her most recent relationship with Joe Alwyn was kept so separate from the public eye. So, are Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce dating? There are many past interviews in which Taylor has spoken about relationships, often sharing her dream for a partner who is ready to live alongside her in spite of her fame. “Would It Be Enough If I Could Never Give You Peace”
One of the last songs to be featured on Folklore, “Peace” evokes emotion in the soft simplicity of its music. On top of that, the message of the song revolves around Swift’s fear that no one will want to stay with her because she can’t offer them a life away from the spotlight. It’s a heartbreaking message, especially with the knowledge that Joe Alwyn (who the song was written about) needed to step away from his relationship with Swift for this exact reason. Another devastating lyric that can be found in this song is “I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me.”
“Did You Hear My Covert Narcissism I Disguise As Altruism”
This hit from Midnights isn’t just referring to relationship trouble, but to Swift’s trouble with self-image in general. She mentions everything from being killed for her money to grappling with depression over people she’s ghosted. Another lyric from “Anti-Hero” that Swift surely had her relationship in mind while writing was “One day I’ll watch as you’re leaving ‘cause you got tired of my scheming for the last time.” Swift makes it clear that she believed she was the problem in her relationship, and while we don’t know why she thought that, we’re sure publicity issues must’ve come into play. The mention of altruism actually being narcissistic makes us think that either Swift, someone close to her or the general public accused her of trying to draw attention to herself or increase her fame by donating to various charities. It seems that even generosity can have its negative effects when you’re famous!
“And I Miss You, But I Miss Sparkling”
This line from “Bejeweled” implies that Taylor had to trade fame or attention for a romantic relationship. She’s expressed how much she loves going out and interacting with fans, but the mutual decision to keep her and Joe’s relationship private might’ve taken her away from that life. “Bejeweled” is about getting back out there, not caring what anyone thinks and having fun doing it. Best believe she can still make the whole place shimmer.
While it’s not officially confirmed that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are dating, things are looking pretty promising. Taylor has been seen at two football games now with her friends and Travis’ family, in addition to the pre games and afterparties. Whatever the situation turns out to be, we’re just happy that she’s comfortable with being back in the public eye.
