Tate McRae released her sophomore album “Think Later” on December 8th. It was a highly anticipated release due to Tate killing her live performances at the Billboard Music Awards and SNL and her singles, “exs” and “greedy” soaring on the charts. She hasn’t disappointed. This album hits close to home describing all the feelings that come with love, heartbreak and backstabbing frenemies. Here is our top 5 Tate McRae Think Later ranking.
5. “we’re not alike”
I love this song because there aren’t a lot of songs written about betrayal among friends. In some cases, friend breakups are even more painful than significant other breakups. Girls can be so conniving and evil that it makes my blood boil. Tate agrees by saying that she can never do what backstabbers do. The vibe of this song matches “Backstabber” by Ke$ha from her debut album. My favorite lyric is “Said she had my back but she had the knife.”
4. “run for the hills”
This song paints an entire picture of being like a moth to a flame with your s/o. You know the relationship will never be all that you want it to be, but at the same time, you have feelings that are too intense to break it off. One of those relationships that you can’t actually enjoy because it’s weighing so heavy on you emotionally. My favorite lyric from this one is “straight to the heart, yeah, it cuts me.”
3. “hurt my feelings”
This song has very similar vibes as “cut my hair.” Tate sings about how she is so infatuated with someone, but knows it will never work because they are already in a relationship. It’s very much a song about having a really bad crush that’s out of reach. Her lyrics suggest that her crush is an athlete because she says “she wears your number, but I got what you like”. My favorite lyric is “she can’t stop it happening in my mind.”
2. “cut my hair”
This song is the complete opposite of Tate’s song from her debut album “she’s all i wanna be”. This gives “break up with your girlfriend” by Ariana Grande vibes. It makes you feel like you are better than whoever your love interest is currently dating. My favorite lyric from this song is “Whatever she do, I can do it better.”
1. “exes”
I’m guilty of already using a lyric from “exes” as an Instagram caption. This song is so catchy and unapologetic. This is the IT girl song. It flips the script on how girls are typically viewed as the ones who are so invested in relationships. This is the ultimate reminder that you hold all the cards. Yes, we have to be compassionate to others but at the end of the day, you need to do what’s best for you as well. My favorite lyric is “it is what it is and was what it was.”
