Grandparent-inspired aesthetics have come in many different forms over the past few years and are continuously gaining more and more popularity. We have already seen coastal grandma and grandpa summer, but we’re now looking at a more traditional approach to a grandmacore aesthetic. This doesn’t just include fashion but home decor and little hobbies you can pick up to start living the simple life of a grandma. So today, we’re going to dive into what grandma chic is all about.
Fashion
I don’t know about you guys, but I really love this side of the internet where you can appreciate fun outfits from unconventional sources that aren’t traditionally seen as fashion icons. Personal style is all around us, and grandmas have it down to a science. Whenever I think of traditional grandmother outfits, the first thing that comes to my mind is Kitschy sweaters, which are basically the ones with a silly little design on them that is endearing in an ironic way. I think they look super cute paired with a good pair of denim jeans and dainty jewelry.
Cardigans are also a huge staple and can be layered with a more basic, modern-looking outfit to create a grandmacore effect. I saw this one cardigan/jacket thing that was made out of quilted material to match those same blankets you are used to seeing at your grandparents’ house, and that is literally the perfect vibe to go for. Danity floral patterns, in general, are also a really good place to start, especially if you are able to get your hands on vintage pieces. Cozy, shapeless dresses like romantic dresses are also my favorite go-to whenever I’m feeling the grandma-chic mood.
Your jewelry can be understated as well, and pearls are always a good way to go. If you have some pieces that have been passed down to you from your grandmother, you are already halfway there!
House Decor
If you really wanna go all out with the grandma chic aesthetic, you can begin to decorate your house as if you are already in your 60s. As I mentioned earlier, grandmas love their quilts, and you can toss them over any couch or bed to elevate the style. Lace is also huge, and I would take advantage of using doilies anywhere in your home: under a lamp, across a coffee table, hanging down your kitchen island; the options are endless. If you find some old china at the thrift store, try hanging it up on your wall next to a vintage picture frame. Also, have all sorts of little lamps littering the entirety of your home if you can. But overall, grandmas are very eclectic and typically acquire all of their things over decades of being alive. So, don’t be afraid to get things from all different kinds of eras, but they can also be timeless if you want.
Hobbies
And last but not least, you can try out the traditional hobbies that your grandma likes to partake in. I won’t lie; the farther I get into my 20s, the more I realize that they are really onto something when it comes to puzzles and crosswords. When you want to have a calm, quiet day, turning to a nice book or crocheting a hat for yourself sounds so lovely. You can try to start baking for your family members, start a garden in your backyard, or play a card game too. If you want to go super crazy, try asking your actual grandma if she wants to do these things with you, and she can teach you everything you need to know. Whatever you decide to go with, I’m sure you’ll find much joy in it. There’s nothing wrong with being an old soul at a young age; don’t ever forget that.
