It’s been a great year for Hozier fans. The Irish singer released his third album Unreal Unearth in August, is currently on tour promoting it, and will be doing a second leg in 2024. We’re sure all Hozier fans can agree there’s something magical and ethereal about his music, and what could be more magical than pairing his songs with the alignment of the stars? If you’ve ever wondered which Hozier song you are, look no further. Today, we’re matching up the zodiac signs as Hozier songs.
Aries – Arsonist’s Lullabye
As the first of the fire signs, Aries are, well, fiery. So what better song to give them than “Arsonist’s Lullabye”? Aries are confident, passionate, and determined, but they’re also known to have a bit of a temper. Hozier incorporates imagery of fire throughout the whole song, and Aries are sure to relate to the lyrics “All you have is your fire / and the place you need to reach / Don’t ever tame your demons / but always keep ‘em on a leash.”
Taurus – Eat Your Young
Tauruses are creatures of comfort. They prefer the finer things in life and love to surround themselves with beauty and luxury. While there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself, when you think of these traits in terms of Dante’s Inferno, which Unreal Unearth is based on, it would make sense to find a Taurus in the 3rd circle, Gluttony. And that’s exactly what “Eat Your Young” is about. We see this throughout the whole song, but especially the opening lines: “I’m starving, darling / Let me put my lips to something / Let me wrap my teeth around the world.”
Gemini – Damage Gets Done
Curious and outgoing Geminis are known for their playful and youthful nature. In “Damage Gets Done,” Hozier plays with the idea of being young and reckless and how older generations think younger generations will always cause society’s downfall. Geminis are sure to relate to the song in its entirety, but especially the lines “And, darling, I haven’t felt it since then / I don’t know how the feeling ended / But I know being reckless and young / Is not how the damage gets done.”
Cancer – I, Carrion (Icarian)
“I, Carrion (Icarian)” is inspired by the myth of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun with a pair of wax wings and met his demise when they melted and he fell into the sea. Hozier turns this tragedy into an emotional song about connection in a fragile relationship. The emotion behind the lyrics makes this a perfect connection for sensitive, creative Cancers: “And though I burn, how could I fall / When I am lifted by every word you say to me? / If anything could fall at all, it’s the world / that falls away from me.”
Leo – Sunlight
Leos are bright, warm, and optimistic — just like the sun. Their cheery and creative disposition makes them the perfect match for the song “Sunlight” from Hozier’s second album, Wasteland, Baby! The lyrics “I had been lost to you, sunlight / And flew like a moth to you, sunlight, oh, sunlight / Oh, your love is sunlight / Oh, your love is sunlight / But it is sunlight” describe the love of a Leo perfectly.
Virgo – It Will Come Back
Virgos are logical, analytical, and practical, so it only makes sense to pair them with “It Will Come Back,” a song about making the practical decision to end a relationship rather than continuing to hang on. Since Virgos often listen to their head over their heart, they’re sure to relate to the lyrics “Don’t let it in with no intention to keep it / Jesus Christ, don’t be kind to it / Honey, don’t feed it, it will come back.”
Libra – Someone New
There’s no better song for flirty, romantic Libras than “Someone New.” Libras love love, and many of them enjoy dating for the sake of getting to know new people. It’s not surprising to learn that a Libra has a new crush or two, so of course, they’ll relate to the chorus of this song: “And so I fall in love just a little, oh, a little bit / every day with someone new.”
Scorpio – Francesca
Scorpios are one of the most passionate and intense zodiac signs, so what could be more fitting than “Francesca”? Inspired by Dante’s Inferno, this song tells the story of Francesca, a woman who was sentenced to eternal torment for a forbidden affair. She sacrifices any chance of escape because she’d rather be in hell with her lover than in heaven without him. Scorpios are sure to relate to the chorus of the song: “I’ll tell them put me back in it / Darling, I would do it again / If I could hold you for a minute / Darling, I’d go through it again.”
Sagittarius – Jackie and Wilson
As a fire sign, Sagittariuses are curious, adventurous, and passionate, just like the woman described in “Jackie and Wilson.” Hozier sings about an exciting, charismatic woman he believes will save him from himself. “She blows outta nowhere, roman candle of the wind / Laughing away through my feeble disguise / No other version of me I would rather be tonight / And, lord, she found me just in time.” Even if it’s all just a fantasy in the speaker’s mind, there’s no doubt this song describes a Sagittarius.
Capricorn – Work Song
As the loyal, hard workers of the zodiac, of course Capricorns are “Work Song.” This is a love song about the strength a worker’s partner gives them to get through hardships. Capricorns would do anything for their loved ones, including crawling home to them like the lyrics in the chorus: “When my time comes around / lay me gently in the cold, dark earth / No grave can hold my body down / I’ll crawl home to her.”
Aquarius – Wasteland, Baby!
Aquarians are creative, innovative, and unique, so they’re a natural choice for Hozier’s post-apocalyptic love song, “Wasteland, Baby!” In this title track, Hozier sings “And the day that we’ll watch the death of the sun / that the cloud and the cold and those jeans you have on / then you’ll gaze unafraid as they sob from the city roofs / Wasteland, baby / I’m in love / I’m in love with you.” There’s no better fit for this song than Aquarius.
Pisces – Would That I
Pisces are compassionate, romantic, and imaginative, and they definitely fit the whimsical vibes of the opening lines of “Would That I”: “True that I saw her hair like the branch of a tree / A willow dancing on air before covering me / Under cotton and calicoes / Over canopy dapple long ago.” This is a song that you can easily imagine a Pisces twirling around to.
