There are so many fun traditions to partake in during the holiday season. Whether you’re putting up decorations, enjoying hot chocolate or participating in a winter sport, there’s something for everyone. When it comes to holiday traditions, it seems like the internet is providing no exceptions. The term “Vlogmas” was initially created for Youtubers who posted Christmas-themed videos on the days leading up to Christmas. Since then, Vlogmas has become an incredibly popular aspect of Youtube, so it was only a matter of time before the trend made its way over to Tiktok. So, what is Vlogmas anyway? When did Vlogmas start and why are so many people participating? Keep reading for our take on all things Vlogmas.

What Is Vlogmas?

Since its creation in the early 2010s, Vlogmas has become a fun tradition for anyone with an online platform during the holidays. Content creators post a video every day for the first 24 days of December, usually with a Christmas/holiday theme of some kind. Depending on what kind of platform influencers have, videos can be incredibly difficult to come up with, film and edit – especially if viewers are expecting something every day! Content creators can use this time to challenge themselves and hone their skills in addition to enjoying holiday festivities.

Why Do Creators Participate?

You might be thinking: if Vlogmas can be so stressful for content creators, why do so many people participate? Even though posting an entire vlog every day might seem overwhelming or stressful at times, the benefits that creators receive for their efforts far outweigh the downsides. Vlogmas provides the opportunity for creators to make a little extra money through brand deals, sponsorships and product reviews. There’s also the possibility of dramatically increasing views, likes and comments on your videos that will set you up nicely for a future as a creator. These few weeks also give people the chance to perfect their craft a little more. They can experiment freely with the knowledge that a new video will be uploaded if the initial video didn’t perform as well as they would’ve liked. Like any other challenge, the sense of accomplishment can also be a driving factor. People love seeing the results of their hard work and dedication!

Our Favorite Christmas Vlogs

Vlogmas videos come in all shapes and sizes. We’re already well into December and I’ve seen countless baking recipes, makeup tutorials and what-I-eat-in-a-day videos that have been circulating since December 1. Since it seems like everyone is putting in the hard work to make this year’s Vlogmas great, we figured we’d highlight some of our personal favorite videos, creators and ideas.

  • @gabbyaverill: Her running vlogs are posted year round, but we love them especially because of her positive attitude. Her platform emphasizes that you should be proud of yourself as a runner, no matter your pace. Her vlogmas videos feature her participating in a candy cane 5k – the perfect running event for the holiday season!
  • @_samanthajo_: Her editing skills are absolutely unmatched and hilarious every time! Not only is she funny, but she’s incredibly genuine about her day-to-day life. Her vlogmas activities include opening advent calendars, dressing as Santa and trying the internet famous holiday simmer pot.
  • @lexssentials: Spending her time between Washington D.C. and New York City, she makes videos that range from skincare routines to restaurant reviews. Her vlogmas videos feature a variety of elements, but we have to say we love her baking ones the most.
