In the world of professional sports, the spotlight often shines brightest on the athletes themselves, however, nowadays that has changed. While their partners dominate the field, court, or track, these women wield their own influence, shaping not only the lives of their loved ones but also making significant impacts on society and culture at large.
WAGS serve as pillars of support for their partners amidst the demanding and often tumultuous world of professional sports. Behind the scenes, they provide unwavering encouragement, emotional stability, and a sense of normalcy in what can be an otherwise chaotic environment. From cheering in the stands to offering a comforting presence after tough losses, these women play a crucial role in maintaining the mental and emotional well-being of their athlete partners. Without their support, it ultimately affects their partner’s performance. For instance, Swift supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce at almost all his football games definitely influenced their results to winning the Super Bowl Championship.
Not to mention, WAGS have also played a significant role in shaping fashion and pop culture. With their impeccable style and glamorous appearances at red carpet events, and social gatherings, they set trends and influence consumer behavior. One big example of this is Kristin Juszczyk, a self-taught designer who is also the wife of NFL player, Kyle Juszczyk. She was famously known for creating the custom Kelce puffer jacket worn by Swift at the Chiefs’ wild-card win. She creates custom and unique merch for celebrities to wear to games, typically made from jerseys. Now that she can officially represent the NFL, she brings a fresh twist to the game in terms of fashion. In terms of pop culture, her designs were all over social media and ultimately brought so much attraction to the NFL.
They are not just someone on the sidelines, they are somebody too. Oftentimes, they help brands get the attention of their partners to work with as well. For example, The Mahomes in the SKIM holiday campaign which was shocking to some people at first created lots of attention to the brand and did well in sales. This shows that brands clamor to collaborate with these influential women, recognizing the immense marketing power they possess.
WAGS are not just passive spectators but active participants in their own right. Many of these women have carved out successful careers and identities outside of their relationships with athletes. From entrepreneurs and businesswomen to artists and activists, they defy stereotypes and challenge traditional notions of what it means to be a partner to a professional athlete. Perhaps one of the most iconic examples, Victoria Beckham, wife of former soccer player David Beckham, has successfully transitioned from being a Spice Girl to a renowned fashion designer. Her eponymous fashion label has received critical acclaim for its chic and sophisticated designs, garnering a loyal following among celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike. By pursuing their passions and interests independently, they inspire countless others to follow their dreams and strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
