Have you ever been told you look like a celebrity? Maybe your friends can’t stop calling you the off-brand Zendaya, or strangers insist you’re Ryan Gosling’s long-lost twin. But suppose you think you might look similar to an A-List celebrity. In that case, you might want to consider participating in all these celebrity look-alike competitions happening across the world. Thanks to social media, your doppelgänger potential doesn’t just have to live in passing comments – it can become a full-blown moment of fame.
Celebrity look-alike competitions have taken the internet by storm, transforming everyday individuals into viral sensations. From Timothée Chalamet to Zayn Malik, these doppelgängers have gathered in parks and plazas from New York to San Francisco to London, all vying for cash prizes, a coveted title and ultimate bragging rights for looking like these A-Listers. So what’s the hype? Let’s dive deep into some of the iconic celebrity look-alike competitions so far!
Timothée Chalamet
The Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest, held in New York City on October 27, was the spark that ignited the celebrity doppelgänger trend across social media. Organized by YouTuber Anthony Po, the event drew hundreds of fans and curious onlookers to Washington Square Park, eager to witness the uncanny Timmy lookalikes in action. The gathering grew so chaotic that it attracted the attention of the police, who stepped in to disperse the crowd, even arresting one of the contestants in the process. But the real twist came when Timothée Chalamet himself made a surprise appearance, crashing the event and sending the already frenzied crowd into total hysteria – even taking pictures with some of his lookalikes. The moment cemented the contest as a viral sensation and set the stage for the rise of celebrity look-alike culture online.
Jeremy Allen White
The Jeremy Allen White look-alike contest brought The Bear to life in Chicago’s Humboldt Park on November 16. About 50 contestants, all dressed as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in white tees and aprons, competed for a hilariously modest prize: $50 and a pack of Marlboros. The event, held in the city where the hit show is filmed, felt like a scene straight out of the show’s chaotic kitchen. Fans, locals, and plenty of intrigued onlookers showed up to watch the Carmy clones in action, making it a uniquely Chicago moment that perfectly matched the show’s scrappy energy.
Zayn Malik
The Zayn Malik look-alike contest in Bushwick had a smaller turnout, but what it lacked in size, it made up for in comedy. While the event aimed to crown the ultimate Zayn doppelgänger, the consensus among the crowd was clear: none of the contestants actually looked like him. The mix of hopefuls ranged from vaguely similar hairstyles to outfits that screamed “close enough,” leaving spectators laughing at the irony. It might not have been the most convincing competition, but it was undeniably entertaining in true Bushwick fashion. And to top it all off, the winner of the Zayn Malik look-alike contest didn’t even know a single One Direction song!
Zendaya
The Zendaya look-alike contest brought a small but dedicated crowd together despite less-than-ideal weather. Attendees gathered to see which of the seven challengers could best embody the Challengers and Euphoria star, with the competition featuring a runway walk, trivia questions, and even a dance battle. The $40 cash prize may not have been life-changing, but the vibes were lighthearted and fun, with both contestants and onlookers enjoying the spectacle.
Harry Styles
The Harry Styles look-alike contest turned a corner of London into a makeshift Love on Tour stop on November 9. Fans packed the park to watch contestants – some of whom were women – in glittery suits, feather boas, and pearl necklaces channel Harry’s iconic style. The winner, a 22-year-old musician named Oscar Journeaux won the contest and a 50-quid grand prize. But if there’s anything you should take from the results of this contest, is that the real Harry’s face card is truly unbeatable!
Paul Mescal
The Paul Mescal look-alike contest in Dublin on November 7 turned into a lively celebration of the actor’s Normal People and Gladiator 2 fame. Young Irish men flooded the plaza, rocking short shorts and running shoes in a perfect homage to Paul’s laid-back style. The winner, Jack Wall O’Reilly emerged victorious, beating out six other competitors to claim the modest prize of 20 euros. But the highlight of it all? Paul Mescal himself reportedly congratulated Jack after the event!
Dev Patel
On November 10, Dolores Park in San Francisco hosted the Dev Patel look-alike contest, where hundreds gathered to see the best lookalikes of the Monkey Man director and actor in the Bay Area face off. The event was organized by friends Sitara Bellam, Tasnim Khandakar, and Sahana Rangarajan, who noticed that many previous look-alike contests had focused primarily on white celebrities. They decided to take matters into their own hands by promoting Patel’s competition on social media, aiming to highlight a pop culture icon from the South Asian community.
As these celebrity look-alike contests continue to pop up around the world, they’re not just about mimicking famous faces – they’ve become a fun way for fans to engage with pop culture, express creativity and even just a way for people to get out the house and do something fun! While some events may fizzle out or draw limited attention online, others leave behind unforgettable moments, like a surprise appearance by the real star or even having the police arrest a lookalike during the contest. These contests have given everyone across social media a good laugh and we can’t wait to see what the next doppelgänger contest will be!
