As the semester wraps up many of us feel as if we are finally seeing the light. It has been a long road but many of us have finally made it. The best part of finals week is the end! Luckily for us university students winter break isn’t a week, two, or three weeks, but an entire month. However, for a lot of us by week two we are scratching our heads wondering what to make of the rest of this month-long break.

Being at home can be hard. You’re not at school so you may feel like there isn’t as much to do. But, because of finals we may be suffering from a cloudy brain. If you feel like you’re just racking your brain figuring out what to do I’ve got you covered. Not to mention, you definitely deserve a break and just need to be reminded how to make the most of it.

Start A New Show

All through this semester I have had to put an endless number of shows onto my watch later list. As a junior in her fall semester, I feel like I have never been busier. Between courses, clubs, social events, and an internship, I just haven’t been able to sit down and properly binge. If you are struggling to land on a show to watch over break I’ve got a perfect recommendation.

House of The Dragon

House of the Dragon is the prequel to the hit series Game of Thrones. The series revolves around the Targaryen royal family. When Rhaenyra Targaryen is untraditionally named heir to her father’s throne as his eldest child, she must fight for her place. Whether it is the battle amidst the skies surrounded by dragons or a battling her former best friend and now stepmother from stealing her throne in favor of Rhaenyra’s half-brothers. You can see the show on HBO Max.

Read A New Book

Being an English major, you’d think I’ve been reading books all semester. Well, that’s ayes and a no. Yes, I have been reading books all semester, but they certainly have not been for pleasure. Now that break is starting, I am extremely excited to get through my reading list. If you are in the same boat as me, I have a great choice for you!

The Rachel Incident

The Rachel Incident follows Rachel, a university student in Ireland. As she completes her senior year she begins to form a crush on her married professor. Aside from her crush though, she begins an intense friendship with her coworker who helps her navigate her on and off relationship.

Watch A New Movie

Sitting down to watch a full movie can be hard. Especially with the looming thoughts of all the school you know you should be doing. So now that it’s break, go ahead and wind down with a good movie you can add to your letterboxd.

Fight Club

Our narrator suffers from intense insomnia that leads to his major depression. However, when he meets his friend carefree friend Tyler and eccentric female lead, Marla, he is inspired. With the help of Tyler, our leading man starts a fight club for other men to let out everyday frustrations. But shush, don’t tell anyone about it.

Apply to Internships

With no schoolwork you may find yourself with more time. Intenrships are very important, and many require a lengthy application process. There are essays, personal statements, and more to fill out. But with the time you now find you have it may be easier to get these done.

Winter break is a great time for catching up with. With these recommendations you have a nice balance of getting work done and having time for yourself. Reading books, watching movies and shows, is the perfect way to spend the cold days. Working hard is important but giving yourself some much needed rest and relaxation is equally important.
