Usually, when I think of smoothies and healthy juices they are inexpensive things I can grab from the grocery store or after a workout at OneStop Nutrition. While this is still a thing, there is a whole new side to healthy smoothies and juice cleanses now. Many major cities around the country are popularizing the wellness lifestyle with the addition of workout studios, pilates classes, juice stores, and smoothie bars. This lifestyle is being romanticized and going viral all over social media for being aesthetic and the new face of the health industry. The wellness side of Los Angeles is something that has been growing for years now, so instead of all the clubs, and unhealthy restaurants, the city of dreams is now the city of wellness. Erewhon is Los Angeles’ new hot spot for all things healthy, natural, aesthetic, and entirely overpriced. This is where the viral Hailey Bieber and Coconut Cloud smoothie is being sold for $20 for a 20-ounce smoothie. If you are like me and think that is ridiculous people are paying that for a fruit smoothie you’re not wrong! But it’s happening right now, so keep reading to find out more about this enticing Erehon smoothie gone viral.
Viral Smoothie
I think the most ‘Los Angeles’ part about this viral smoothie is that it is named after one of LA’s biggest “it girls” Hailey Bieber, who is most widely known for being Justin Bieber’s wife and always trending for her style, skincare, and lifestyle. This smoothie is nothing out of the ordinary, meaning there is so special ingredient that makes it worth $20 but it is still being bought left and right. It is named the Hailey Bieber Strawberry Skin Glaze Smoothie to attract customers to make them think after they drink it they will have glowing skin because of some of the healthy ingredients. It has everything from your typical strawberries, banana, and avocado to collagen protein and sea moss which are good for your eyes, hair, nails, and skin. The aesthetic and presentation of the smoothie as well as Erewhon’s recent popularity has made it so coveted even by people who don’t live in California and don’t have access to it. The Hailey Bieber smoothie is not the only one that has been insanely popular recently but also the Coconut Cloud smoothie which is a beautiful blue and white color that screams tropical bliss. This one is around the same price at $19 for a typical fruit smoothie plus the addition of blue spirulina powder which is a protein powder that gives it its dreamy blue color. I have not personally tried any of these viral smoothies and have a hard time imagining paying $20 for blended fruit and protein powder, but at the same time if I found myself in LA at an Erewhon I might give it a try to see for myself what the hype is about!
Erewhon’s Atypical Grocery Items
You may be thinking if the smoothies at Erewhon are $20, then how overpriced are their regular grocery items? Well at first I didn’t even know they were a regular grocery store until I looked into it because I would only see people post about their drinks and hot food bar you can take to go. Their cafe sells plates with meat or fish and two sides for $33 so when I realized you can do regular grocery shopping there I did some research on what other things you can buy there. There is typical produce, dairy, and proteins like many grocery stores do, but they also have some items you would probably never need to buy, even if you’re a wealthy person in LA. For example, they are selling a Japanese strawberry for $19 which is supposed to be the sweetest and most perfect strawberry. That’s right! $19 for one strawberry sold in packaging that is wasteful but just adds to the aesthetic. I think the craziest part is people actually buy it, there was a woman on TikTok who bought and reviewed it, and clearly, the comments did not support it because who needs a $19 strawberry? Erewhon also sells random items like ice spheres for $30. Just ice in the shape of spheres for that much which is wild, and 6 eggs for $8 and I know in this economy eggs aren’t cheap anymore but that’s crazy! Even the chapstick they sell is $10 so if you are going to shop there you are more than likely to ring up a big bill.
Alternatives To Make At Home
So if you’re like me and probably won’t find yourself going to Erewhon anytime soon but you still want a great smoothie alternative then I got you! Thankfully a valid source which is a woman who works at Erewhon provided a recipe and showed how you can make it at home. All you need is a blender and the essential ingredients which are: strawberries, banana, avocado, almond milk, simple syrup, stevia, collagen powder, coconut whip (or yogurt), and seasmoss gel. Almost all of the ingredients you can find at the grocery store and for the more expensive ones I linked on Amazon and it will last you a long time and many smoothies. Below in the TikTok caption are specific measurements she recommended all you need to do is blend it and you have the viral smoothie at home and you don’t have to go to LA or spend your money in the boujee grocery store.
At the end of the day, the Erewhon smoothie trend is more about the vibe and aesthetic than the actual drink itself. While it’s fun to romanticize wellness and treat yourself to a boujee smoothie every once in a while, you don’t need to spend $20 to get in on the trend. With just a few simple ingredients, you can easily recreate these viral drinks at home for a fraction of the price—without the LA markup or chaos. So whether you’re in it for the taste, the health benefits or just the Instagram-worthy look to post about, now you have the perfect Erewhon smoothie dupe to enjoy at home or anywhere!
