Staying safe is so important, especially for women. As much as I wish we didn’t have to have this conversation, it needs to be said that women of all ages should take action to make sure they are as safe as they can be at all times. Whether you’re walking to your car at night, exploring your college campus, or at the grocery store, your safety should be a major concern.
But, I’ve seen the self defense tools at the store and they are big, clunky and oftentimes, not targeted for women. And while I’m not saying the look of the devices really matters in the end, having safety devices made for women can help with their use, too. Here are some of my favorite women self defense tools, made by women for women.
She’s Birdie

This tool is a keychain with a 30db siren and a flashing strobe light. If you’re being approached or attacked, using this alarm can alert everyone around you, and potentially scare off your attacker. She’s Birdie was created by sisters Amy Ferber and Ali Ferber Peters in hopes to make the world a safer place for women. These keychains also come in cute colors to match any aesthetic.
Flare

The Flare safety bracelet connects to an iOS app and by clicking a hidden button on your wrist you can trigger a fake phone call sent to your phone, a text sent out to your friends for help along with your GPS location sent to them, or even a call to 911. This can all be done by clicking a button on your bracelet, without even touching your phone. Flare was created by Quinn Fitzgerald and Sara de Zarraga who strive to #PutFlareOutOfBusiness by educating and advocating for safety.
SIREN

SIREN offers rings in silver and gold, with a variety of stones. But beyond their super cool look, they also emit a piercing 110+ decibel alarm when activated. This alarm aims to stun and scare away a potential attacker. Founder and CEO Kat Alexander had a close call one night that had her wondering how she could design a wearable safety device. She took the idea to her father, who had 50 years of experience in computer, security, and audio technology and they created SIREN.
SipChip

The SipChip was designed so you can tell if your drink has been drugged. All you gotta do is dip your finger in your drink and apply even just a drip to the SipChip. These little chips are tiny and can seriously come in handy if you find yourself in a bad situation. They even come with carriers so you can keep them safe on your keychain, in your bag, wallet or pocket.
Safety Keychains

So many Etsy sellers have begun to compile stylized safety keychains. These keychains often include lanyards or wristlets, pompoms, alarms, flashlights, bottle openers, window breakers, and at times, even self-defense weapons.
