Try Out A Stovetop Potpourri To Make Your House Smell Amazing

Now that Thanksgiving is over, the holiday season has officially begun. While you’re decorating the house by putting up the tree, or painting ornaments, or trying out some of your Christmas recipes (like baking cookies), you’ll want the house to smell amazing. While candles, wax burners and oil diffusers are great options, I’ve stumbled upon another option that you might be interested in. Have you ever heard of stovetop potpourri?
What’s a stovetop potpourri?
While potpourris (also called simmer pots) can consist of dried ingredients and are often bowls that are used as decor, this article will be focusing on stovetop potpourris. Basically, potpourris are a culmination of great smelling ingredients, mixed together to make your house smell incredible. Stove top potpourris are often a mix of fruit, dried ingredients and others that are brought to a boil to make the entire house smell incredible. My favorite thing about potpourris, especially holiday ones, is that you can use leftover ingredients so you can cut down on your food waste.
Holiday Potpourri
This easy holiday-themed potpourri includes cranberries, oranges, cinnamon, cloves and water. Pour all of these into a pot, stir it up and bring it to a bowl. Then, your entire house will smell amazing! These ingredients might be leftover from a holiday recipe you’re making, which makes it easy and multi-purposeful. You can also drink the water once it has cooled as tea! There are also no synthetic fragrances in there, all-natural!
Cinnamon Bun

This is one of the most simple potpourris I have seen! All you need is some cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and vanilla extract! This one doesn’t take a lot of ingredients at all, and it will make it smell like you just made a giant batch of cinnamon buns. This is so easy and the smell will last for hours.
No Cinnamon Potpourri
So many of the potpourri recipes include cinnamon, but if you don’t have any on hand or you’re allergic to cinnamon, there are still other options. This recipe uses lemon, rosemary, and vanilla. I love the smell of lemons, so this one will have the perfect zesty smell.
Candy Cane
You might notice that a ton of these recipes use cranberries, but this one also adds in a touch of peppermint for those winter vibes. Add together your cranberries and peppermint extract and bring it to a boil! Yum!
Blueberry Pancakes
Instead of cranberries, this recipe uses blueberries as the main scent. Add in some lemon slices and vanilla extract and you’re good to go. I personally like this recipe more than many of the others because I always have blueberries on hand. Sometimes, I forget to eat them and instead of them going to waste, I can pop them in a pot and boom. Problem solved.
Chai Apple
This one is one of my favorites! You can use any tea packets you have in your potpourris to make them smell even better. This recipe uses a chai packet, along with apples, oranges, and cloves. I’m a huge chai fan, so I think adding in some tea leaves from any of your fave teas would really make your potpourri that much better.
Grapefruit Cranberry
Another delicious potpourri recipe! This one introduces grapefruit and cranberries into the mix, along with the standard cinnamon sticks and rosemary. This one could be turned into a holiday smell, or more of a summery smell, depending on what you pair with it.
Basically, potpourris can be made with just about any fruit and herbs you have left around the house or leftover after a recipe is finished. Throw it in a pot and let it simmer! Happy start to the holiday season!
