It’s almost time to celebrate the New Year. In just a few days, we’ll turn the page on 2021 and head into 2022. In conjunction with other holidays, people usually love to watch themed movies, but I’ve noticed that there aren’t enough movies that celebrate the new year. Based on what you’re looking for in the new year, I’ve paired together some of the best New Years movies out there that will align with what you’re looking for.
Looking for Love? Watch… When Harry Met Sally (1989)
This movie has one of the most iconic New Year’s Eve scenes in a movie EVER. When Harry Met Sally is one of the most perfect romcoms to snuggle up and watch, especially in anticipation of the new year. If love is on your horizon, or if you’d like love to be in the cards this upcoming year, this movie might be a good one for you to watch to ring the new year in. Manifest a love like the one in this film with Harry and Sally.
Learning Lessons? Watch… About A Boy (2002)
About A Boy is… about a boy. Haha. Sorry, not funny. Surrounding New years, our main characters, Marcus and Will meet. Marcus is a twelve-year-old boy who has had to learn to grow up a lot faster than the other kids around him. Will, is a 38-year-old man, who has done the exact opposite. Will is extremely immature, and he has a thing or two to learn from this twelve-year-old. While the two are an unlikely pair, lessons are learned and Will learns how to be a real adult. If you learned a lot in 2021, or are hoping to learn more in 2022, this movie will get you started.
Want To Reminisce? Watch… High School Musical (2006)
Alright, we all know that no New year’s Eve scene can ever beat the karaoke meet-cute at the beginning of this movie. While this might also be a good movie to watch if you’d like to focus on your career Sharpay style, it’s also the perfect watch if you’d like to reminiscence and reflect. Depending on what age you are, High School Musical was a classic Disney Channel Original Movie for our generation. Watching old movies like this wraps me in cozy vibes and makes me remember what it felt like to be a kid. Look back at this year and see how far you’ve come!
Looking For A New Beginning? Watch… Stuck In Love (2012)
While there’s not technically a New years scene in this movie, the entire thing surrounds the holiday season. The movie cycles through one full year, starting and ending at Thanksgiving. Basically, the movie is about love, family, writing, forgiveness and new beginnings. Truthfully, this is one of my favorite movies of all time and I guarantee you will love it. Especially if you’re looking for a new beginning in 2022, this movie might just have the motivation for you to do so. Every time I watch this movie, I feel refreshed and a lot more open about life, as if I’m ready to forgive, forget and move on.
Looking For Acceptance? Watch… About Time (2013)
You can’t change the past… or can you? In “About Time” the main character Tim is told at a New Year’s party by his father that he is able to time travel. His powers can’t be used to change history, but can be used to change his own life. Because of this realization, he decides to go back in time to get himself a girlfriend. But time-traveling isn’t as easy as he thinks it will be, and the more he does it, the more he messes things up. He also comes to the realization that time travel can’t fix everything and that he’ll still have to go through the pain and sorrow of life, no matter how much he tries to fix his problems. Are you trying to find acceptance? This movie is the perfect watch for that.
