If you’ve ventured over into the spiritual side of TikTok at any point, then you might be familiar with the soulmates vs twin flames vs karmic relationships debate. Or if your for you page is not spiritualtok friendly, you might have no idea what it’s about or what it means. It’s likely you’ve heard of soulmates, but twin flames? Karmic? Huh?
Keeping up with TikTok trends and debates can get tricky, especially when it comes to a concept as complex and broad as spirituality. Luckily, so many creators have been making videos about this trend and have helped to define the difference between soulmates, twin flames and karmic relationships. (Yes, they’re all different!) We took a deeper look into all three of these aspects so you don’t have to. So, if you’re ready to see how deep your relationship really is, consider us your spiritual guides. Let’s break it all down, starting with soulmates.
Soulmates, As Defined By TikTok
Without a doubt, the concept of soulmates is the most popular out of the three, and probably nearly everyone can come up with some definition for it. But TikTok says soulmates have a particular kind of connection that differs from twin flames and karmic relationships, and it may or not be what you think it is.
Generally, soulmates are two people that form a strong connection and emotional bond with one another. You’ve probably met someone before and felt like you just clicked instantly. You might’ve even asked them, “Have I known you in a past life?” That’s because soulmate bonds usually feel effortless, so much so that it might feel like you’ve known them for a lot longer than you actually have. If you’ve found a connection like that, you’re not the only one. Soulmate bonds are pretty common and can come in the form of romantic or platonic relationships.
What’s In A Twin Flame?
In spirituality, there is the concept that one’s soul can be split into two. People who carry two halves of one soul are called twin flames. Sometimes referred to as “mirror souls,” twin flames have an intense emotional connection that goes even deeper than soulmates. You might feel so powerfully intertwined with the other person that it’s difficult to be without them. According to spiritualtok, not everyone has a twin flame out there, so it can get difficult to distinguish soulmates from twin flames.
There is a dark side to twin flame relationships that isn’t often seen in soulmates. They can be some of the more challenging relationships to be in because, as the other half of your soul, you’re more likely to find your insecurities and anxieties reflected in the other person. If you’re not ready to face your faults, you might find this difficult to navigate. It’s no doubt that having your fears and weaknesses magnified by your twin flame can push your comfort levels, but it can also help you confront your flaws and grow as a person if you let it.
Karmic relationships are similar to soulmates and twin flames in that they involve two people that feel magnetically bonded to one another. However, karmic relationships can get sticky, and pretty fast. According to TikTok experts, karmic relationships are full of intensity, passion and lust, but are difficult to sustain in the long run. In other words, karmic relationships can be toxic and aren’t built to last.
Some signs that might reveal that you’re in a karmic relationship are codependency, seeing red flags and one-too-many rough patches. These relationships are meant to be temporary and teach you valuable lessons. While karmic bonds make for some of the more turbulent relationships, there is good in them; you leave karmic entanglements with greater clarity about who you are and what you want in life.
