The first recommendation of this list goes to none other than Happy Place by Emily Henry, the beloved rom-com author who wrote other hot girl reads like Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation. Happy Place just came out in April and is a witty, spicy book about fake dating. In the novel, a couple breaks up but then pretends to be together while they spend their yearly vacation with friends. This is the perfect beach read you need for hot girl summer! If the fun plot doesn’t sell you, then the gorgeous bright pink cover surely will.
It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey
‘Tis the season for spicy rom-coms! It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey one is a favorite on BookTok and is giving Hallmark in the best ways. It’s about a city girl who falls for a local fisherman during the summer. I haven’t read this one yet, and this short description has me so excited about it! It’s full of romance, pining and cuteness and is exactly what you need to read on the beach this summer while you soak up the sun.
One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
Italy in the summer? Sign me up! Despite what you might think, this isn’t exactly a romance novel, even though there’s some romance in it. One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle follows an adult woman named Katy whose life is altered dramatically when her mother passes away. Katy decides to go on a vacation in Italy, a trip she had planned to go on with her mother. It’s a touching book about grief and growth with plenty of interesting turns in the plot. The book is a perfect summer read and is, frankly, a great book for any time of year.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
POV: you’re an identical twin at your twin sister’s wedding where the best man is the guy you hate, who is also really hot. Then, everyone at the wedding gets sick from food poisoning (because of course they do). The bride (your sister) and the groom get sick too, which means there’s a honeymoon in Maui up for the taking. The only people not sick are you and the hot guy you hate and, naturally, you both have to go on the honeymoon. Yeah, that’s The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Sold yet? You should be! This book has all the fun, romantic spice you need for this summer.
Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
If you haven’t seen all the hype over the Amazon Prime series by the same name, where have you been? If you loved the show or read our article about it, you’ll be pleased to know Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is equally as good. It’s about this fictional 1970s rock band and their gorgeous lead singer, Daisy. The book follows the group into stardom and eventually into their breakup. If you love music, then this is definitely a book you’ll love. Plus, Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of the best and biggest writers right now, having put out bestsellers like Malibu Rising, Carrie Soto Is Back, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed by this one!
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
This is another book I’ve seen all over TikTok and Instagram that I simply can’t wait to dive into. Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton is a memoir about the author’s experiences in her 20s. It highlights the highs and lows of friendship, dating, heartbreak, partying, growing up and so much more. There’s even a TV series based on the novel that you can watch as you read. To the hot girls navigating their 20s, this is definitely one for us!
Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney
If you loved Sally Rooney’s Normal People and Conversations With Friends, then you have to check out Beautiful World, Where Are You. It’s similar to her other novels in that it focuses on adults who live rather typical, mundane lives and the relationships that they have with each other. In true Rooney fashion, the novel focuses on the reality of dating, communicating and connecting in the 21st century. It’s a great read to get you in your thoughts and appreciate the messy, beautiful, complex world around you. Consider it a hot girl summer read: intellectual edition.
