Have you ever seen a video of the most beautiful home with vintage or Victorian interior design? And do you remember the pain of inevitably seeing that home turned into a modern one lacking the flair of its previous style. We know the feeling all too well.

While home design is all up to personal taste and preference, it is a little disheartening to see the original beauty of a vintage home discarded. Modern style homes are typically more minimalist and have more bland colors in comparison to the creative decor and color combinations of vintage homes. What seems to drag down the merit of modern home decor is the uniformity of it all. It hardly allows for any creativity or anything that could possibly stand out or go outside the lines of expectations. It’s no coincidence that modern home decor across the board uses the same color schemes that aren’t attention grabbing, and this applies to furniture as well. This lack of expression doesn’t allow for anything to stand out and have character.

You may remember the viral video of the girl who redecorated her boyfriend’s apartment, and the uproar it had the Internet in. Although his space was not a vintage styled home, it still embodies this phenomenon perfectly. Many shared on social media how much they loved his previous interior design choices because they felt they were full of class and character, lamenting how it was stripped of these things for a more palatable and blank look.

This is where the de modernizing homes trend comes in, and people are loving it. Instead of relying on modern notions of home decor, this trend allows for full stylization of your home to the maximum extent. It’s also a way to keep the original charm of your home without having to change everything about it. Many people love the feeling of nostalgia and comfort vintage and classical homes bring, especially for those who love involving the vintage aesthetic in their lives.

The de modernizing homes trend extends far beyond living rooms, and even applies to bedrooms and bathrooms. De modernizing utilizes not only intentional home decor, but even the architecture of the home to emphasize its beauty. Instead of reconstructing the home and tearing down old parts of it, these embellishments are used to enhance the character and uniqueness of the space.

Besides maintaining the original style of the home, what many seem to admire about the de modernizing movements is the originality it offers. No two vintage or Victorian homes look alike as they are all allowed to have their own character and story. This varies greatly from the current trend of modern style homes as many of them look eerily similar or completely identical to one another. By de modernizing your home, you have an opportunity to create a space that looks like no one else’s all while using what you have and adding your special touch to it.

Overall, there seems to be a correlation between the rise of this trend and maximalism in general. It is an act of rebellion against modernism, and a step forward to something else. Many homes and apartments are either made in a modern style, or their previous vintage appeal was changed. We are forced into the confines of modernism without being given a chance to opt out, but de modernizing offers us that chance. People want to enjoy design and style without feeling it has to fit under a certain criteria, and there is solace to be found in de modernizing your homes. Challenge norms and conventions, see where it takes you, because it just might be the path to unbound creativity and expression.
