If you’ve begun crocheting as a hobby, you’ve likely come across Woobles at some point. Woobles is a crochet craft company that sells premade kits to help beginners get into crocheting, providing yarn, a crochet hook, instructions, and more to get started. As an avid crocheter, I’ve considered gifting these kits and bundles to friends and family, to introduce them to crochet, but shied away due to the price. Now that I’m in another “crochet phase”, I’m revisiting Woobles and trying to determine if the product is worth the price. After doing some research, here is the Woobles crochet review!
Woobles has no small selection of amigurumi (small stuffed yarn creatures) to choose from- dragons and pigs, penguins and llamas, and even collaboration kits like Harry Potter and Hello Kitty. There are even limited editions, meaning that they come with a custom hook to match the amigurumi. The difficulty level ranges from beginner to intermediate and the types of projects are very simple- great for those who are learning to crochet. In one kit, they provide you with everything you need to make a lovable little friend. The yarn is large enough for you to be able to see what you are doing, and the instructions are clear enough to help beginners understand how to follow along. Most of the beginner projects even come partially started, which is arguably the most difficult part for new crocheters.
The second thing I noticed about Woobles was the price (the first thing I noticed was admittedly the cute amigurumi on the package, but that’s beside the point). I was shopping around Christmas time when I considered getting every member in my family a Woobles kit from the craft store so that we could all crochet together, since the amigurumi on the front was super cute. However, I changed my mind when I saw the price, at about $30 per kit! I didn’t even know if my family members would like it, let alone use the kit, so I decided to look elsewhere for my gifts. If you know where to shop, you can get three full skeins of yarn, a crochet needle, stuffing, a 6-pack of safety eyes, and a yarn needle for about the same price. For me, as someone who crochets semi-regularly, the price of one tiny package for a small crochet project just wasn’t worth it.
I will say that Woobles is great for crocheters who are conservative about the amount of yarn they use. As someone who buys yarn and feels bad when I can’t find a project for it, I applaud Woobles’ conservation of material. They provide you exactly with what you need, making this service great for someone who crochets casually. There’s even an option on their website that excludes the hook from the order, dropping the price by $5. I would like to see the option to exclude the yarn needle and stitch markers in the future, as I’m sure after a while having multiples of these items will just add to the clutter.
All in all, if you are a beginner who is looking for an easy project, or is just learning about crochet, I would say that Woobles is a great service. The kits, though a bit pricey, are great for crocheters who don’t want their extra yarn to go to waste.
