While most concerts have an unspoken dress code spread amongst the artists’ fans, mainly following the album aesthetics, Rauw Alejandro has taken it into his own hands for his latest tour by posting a dress code announcement on Instagram after fans were speculating on the theme so they could start planning their outfits.  So, with the official 1960s Evening Gown theme, here’s a guide for Rauw Alejandro concert outfits!

While many fans aren’t thrilled about having a set dress code for the tour and say that it will be hard to figure out an outfit and making memes out of it, breaking it down to some of the simple features and details of the era Rauw announced can be a helpful way of figuring out what to wear. Of course, dressing up is never mandatory, but it can be super fun, so don’t stress out too hard about finding the perfect outfit.

As the caption states, the inspiration for the look aligns with these words: “Elegancia, flow y puro estilo,” or elegance, flow, and pure style. Invoking a timeless and classy vibe for the Cosa Nuestra Tour, it will surely be filled with fun outfits throughout the tour’s run.

Sequins

Sparkles and sequins will be your best friends when looking for outfit inspiration. While many of the silhouettes of the era lean towards floor length, finding dresses with a side split can bring that old-school vibe while still being something you will look and feel good in. Going for colors like gold and black can also lend to the era’s aesthetic.

If you don’t fully want to wear floor-length gowns, using these same elements for your outfit will still help you look the part. With a few shows done by now, you can also see what the backup dancers are wearing. Bold colors and fringe that allow for flow and movement; this is another feature that you can incorporate into your outfit or replicate. Finding a fringe dress can be a good option; there are so many options online that you are bound to find your favorite.

If you decide to go this route, many of the options will end up looking more like flapper dresses from the 1920s. While this isn’t exactly the era specified, the same aesthetics are still present and will still make you feel like you’re dressed for a night out in the 1960s.

Other options can include sequin jumpsuits, silk skirts, or tops

Your biggest source of inspiration will most likely come from West Side Story. Using a similar backdrop for his tour, trying to embody the same aesthetics of the movie will be helpful. Having New York as his backdrop throughout the concert, you can’t go wrong by embracing looks inspired by the film.

Whether you want to wear a bold, colorful dress or want to go more for how the jets look, there is a variety to choose from.

Suits

Dressy suits that you can thrift or find online, done right, can end up being cute. This look works for both men, women, and non-binary fans attending. The pinstripe look is timeless, and if you are not one to buy an outfit to wear only once, purchasing wide-leg pants can help bring an outfit together while being a new closet staple.

The same goes for getting a pin-striped top; you can have both the bottoms and top in a matching set or mix either with a solid color to build your look.

If you want to go all out and wear a full suit, go for browns, black, and cream colors. A nice silk shirt underneath will look amazing if you want the full effect.

If a three-piece suit set sounds like something you just don’t want to do, you can always style a nice pair of slacks with a knitted 60s-inspired top or a dagger collar.

Accessories

Last but not least, the most essential part of your outfit is the accessories. The best part of having a theme is that you can go as all-out as you would like, and for me, that mainly shows through the accessories. Whether you land on an extravagant outfit or something that is still on the theme but a bit more toned down, accessorizing will level up the outfit no matter what.

If you’re going for a more masculine look, you might have seen some accessories that Ruaw has worn on tour that you can incorporate! With some slacks and a white undershirt, a news cap and some suspenders can be added to an outfit to elevate it a bit further. Likewise, if you are leaning toward dressing up a bit more and wearing a suit, you can add a gold chain to your vest or suit jacket. Adding a watch or even some sunglasses can also complete the look.

If you are planning on wearing a more feminine outfit, there are many options for your accessories. You should think about picking the right pair of heels that you can comfortably stand in and dance in for at least two hours. If you choose an outfit that looks more like from the flapper era, full send and get the gloves, headpiece, and jewelry to complete the look. A heavy and dramatic pearl necklace can make the outfit pop just a little more.

When looking at makeup looks, don’t be afraid of the big, dramatic winged eyeliner look and getting some falsies to add to your final makeup look.

If you are still struggling to figure out an outfit, look for inspiration from some icons from the 1960s and find things that you would love to wear.  Legends like Marilyn Monroe wore bold, flattering dresses and always wore impeccable makeup. Icon María Félix is another celebrity from this era whom you can find inspiration from.

@retrorewinding

María Félix (April 8, 1914 – April 8, 2002) was a prominent Mexican actress and singer, celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in Latin American cinema during the 1940s and 1950s. Born María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña in Álamos, Sonora, Mexico, she was the daughter of Félix, of Yaqui origin, and Josefina Güereña, of Basque descent. Félix’s film career began in 1942 with “El Peñón de las Ánimas,” but it was her role as Doña Bárbara in the 1943 film of the same name that solidified her status as a leading actress. Throughout her career, she appeared in 47 films across Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, and Argentina, working with renowned directors such as Jean Renoir and Luis Buñuel. Known for her strong personality and beauty, Félix became a symbol of sophistication and independence. She was often referred to as “La Doña,” a moniker derived from her iconic role in the 1943 film “Doña Bárbara.” Her influence extended beyond cinema; designers like Christian Dior and Cartier created custom pieces for her, and she was admired for defying traditional roles assigned to Latin actresses. Félix’s personal life was as eventful as her career. She was married four times and had one son, Enrique Álvarez Félix, who also pursued a career in acting. Her marriages included unions with singer Agustín Lara and actor Jorge Negrete. María Félix passed away on April 8, 2002, in Mexico City, on her 88th birthday, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential figures in the history of Mexican cinema.
