Have you ever traveled or moved somewhere and felt like something in your life has shifted? Realistically, it’s the fact that you are in a completely new environment, but what if there is more to it than that? Some places feel better for you than others, and there can potentially be an explanation for that. Whether you’ve seen TikToks about this or are deep in the astrology rabbit hole, here’s a guide on using your astrocartography for travel.
Now, if you’ve never heard of astrocartography, don’t panic. You’re not alone. It’s real-ish; for some, it’s the travel hack they didn’t know they needed. So let’s dive into what it is, why people are using it, and whether it’s helpful or just another cosmic excuse to justify bad decisions abroad.
But what exactly is astrocartography? A relatively new branch of astrology, it shows you where in the world certain planetary lines fall in relation to your birth chart. Translation: Based on your birth chart, different planets rule different parts of the globe for you. A pretty cool way to make a must-visit list if you think about it.
Since each line corresponds to a different planet—like Venus, Mars, Saturn, etc., the energy of that planet tends to influence how you feel or even possible experiences you will have in those regions. Want to fall in love? Maybe you should finally plan that trip to Europe since your Venus line runs through Florence. Want a total emotional breakdown? Congratulations, you just flew into your Moon line without checking your chart first.
Sounds a little out there, sure, but at the same time, there have been crazier ideas put out there, and what’s the harm in having an excuse to visit more places?
How to Utilize it
The process of getting your astrocartography chart is pretty similar to getting your birth chart. Using sites like Astro.com where you can insert your birth info into the Astro travel section and it will generate a world map covered in lines. Each line tells you where a planet was rising, setting, or doing something astrologically significant at the moment you were born.
There are four types of lines: Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, and IC—basically, how a planet was showing up in your life when you were born. The theory goes that traveling or moving to these locations can “activate” those planetary energies. Now this is just a base baseline on how to read your chart, there are plenty of online resources that can help you deep dive into every aspect of your chart so that you can get the full picture.
Is It Legit?
Like a lot of other aspects of astrology, the urge to be skeptical is strong, but it can alos be very fun to lean into. Nobody’s saying you’re going to spontaneously find your soulmate just because you booked a weekend where your Venus line—but also, who are we to say it won’t happen?
People who swear by astrocartography say they’ve experienced life-changing transformations by moving to or visiting certain places. There are anecdotes galore: folks who felt more confident on their Sun line, finally found peace on their Moon line or landed their dream job on a Mars Midheaven. Self-fulfilling prophecy or not, it can be fun to take this into account when traveling or moving.
On the flip side, some people find the experience chaotic or draining in certain areas. Facing unexpected challenges in places you were excited about can lead to growth-oriented periods that aren’t always as fun as you would hope.
So is it real? Maybe, just depends on who you ask. Is it interesting? Absolutely. Is it the next big travel trend? Honestly, probably—especially if TikTok’s current obsession with astrology and spiritual girl eras is anything to go by, so why not join the club now?
Should You Travel Based on This?
If you’re the type of person who checks your daily horoscope, tracks your crush’s birth chart, and refuses to get a drastic haircut during Mercury retrograde then yes you probably should. You’re already invested in what the stars have in store for you, so why not let them guide you a little further?
But even if you’re more of a “non-believer” there’s still something fun and introspective about it. You might not plan whole trips around your chart but at the very least, it gives you a new lens to look at places through and maybe help ground you a bit while you travel to new places.
And if you are anything like me, half of the time you’re looking for signs or coincidences around you. If the universe wants to give you a little nudge toward Paris or Bali? Why not take it? Worst case, you end up with a fun vacation and a great story, that you might have not had otherwise. Best case, you come back a whole new person.
Travel Hacks That Are Written In The Stars
So after taking all this into consideration, let’s do a quick recap on some of the lines you’ll see on your chart, so that you can plan your next trip accordingly.
Venus Line: Amazing vibes for love, beauty, and Insta-worthy sunsets. Great for honeymoons or solo lovefests. Self-love or memorable trips, you can’t go wrong by traveling here!
Mars Line: Could go either way depending on your situation. Energy is high, but you might also experience more intense emotions than you’d like.
Sun Line: Another good place to travel to! Tends to lend a confidence boost and potential life breakthroughs, if you need a little push to get to yout best version you might find it here.
Moon Line: Need a cathartic emotional trip after a big life event? You’re likely to find that here. You will get some emotional growth, sure, but also possibly find yourself crying in public before you can help it.
Jupiter Line: Looking for clarity on your career? Visit your Jupiter line and you might just find the breakthrough you have been waiting for
Saturn Line: Will you grow? Yes. Will it be fun? Probably not. That’s all I have to say about this line.
Recap
Whether you buy into astrocartography completely or not, it’s undeniably entertaining. It adds a little magic to the mundane—like turning “I want to go to Greece” into “I need to visit my Jupiter Ascendant in Athens for my spiritual expansion.”
At the end of the day, people are going to travel where they want to travel. But if you’re going to book a flight, wouldn’t it be nice to know whether you’re walking into a Venus love story or an unwarranted therapy session?
Worst case scenario? You blame the stars when your Airbnb has no hot water. Best case? You meet your soulmate, find your calling, or at the very least, come back with a cool story and a weird souvenir. Either way, safe travels!
