One of the TikTok’s hottest makeup trends this summer is latte makeup. This coffee-inspired look began trending in July and has been blowing up ever since. With over 273 million views on TikTok, even celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber are joining in. So what exactly is latte makeup? Keep reading to learn more about the look and how you can achieve it as we walk you through the latte makeup trend.
What Is Latte Makeup?
In late June, TikTok creator Rachel Rigler posted a video coining the term “latte makeup.” She describes the look as “warm and bronzy, milky and effortless.” Latte makeup is all about creating a natural, sun-kissed look using shades of brown, hence the coffee-inspired name. The key points of this trend are light coverage and glowy skin, a nude lip and a smokey eye. By adding some gold shimmer, the makeup can easily become a day-to-night look, and the use of brown and neutral shades makes this the perfect makeup look for the transition from summer to fall.
Achieve The Look
There are three main aspects to achieving this look: face, eyes, and lips. Depending on the tutorial you use, you’ll start with either the face or the eyes. For this article, I chose to follow the steps in Rigler’s original video. The steps and products used could vary depending on your skin tone and what you’re hoping to get out of the look.
First, you’ll begin with moisturizer. In her tutorial, Rigler applies one pump of tinted moisturizer to her face, avoiding her nose. She states that avoiding the nose “gives the illusion that you aren’t wearing as much makeup as you are,” which is a key element of latte makeup. Apply the tinted moisturizer to your brow bone, as well, blending outward and upward. Then apply a dark brown eyeshadow to your lid. Rigler uses a liquid eyeshadow, but you can use whatever product you prefer. You’ll then blend in a warmer brown and add a gold shimmer to the corner of your eye.
Then, return your focus to the face. Use a cream bronzer to contour and blend so there are no hard lines. You’ll want this to be a similar shade to the darker eyeshadow you applied. Next, add some concealer (Rigler applied to her forehead and chin and around her eyes and nose) and powder those areas. Unlike another popular makeup trend, “strawberry makeup,” which uses blush to give the wearer a light sunburnt look, latte makeup uses no blush whatsoever. Instead, use bronzer as a setting powder for any areas you didn’t apply concealer.
Next, you’ll finish up your eye makeup. Apply a brown eye shadow stick under your eye, and add a dark brown shadow to your lash line. You’ll also apply brown eyeliner to your waterline and add a light coat of mascara.
For the lips, Rigler takes the beauty blender she used for her face and applies the excess to her lips. You can do this, as well, or simply line your lips with a nude lip liner and apply some clear lip gloss. Now you’re all set!
One of the best things about this look is that if you’re a regular makeup wearer, you probably already have most, if not all, of the products you need. But if you need some recommendations, we’ve got you covered!
